Today in history 1935 Sir Malcom Campbell became the first person to drive a vehicle over 300 mph, and it was done on the Bonneville Salt flats
Blue Bird LSR Car Part 4: Campbell-Railton-Rolls-Royce (1933-1935) To reach higher speeds, Malcolm Campbell’s Blue Bird LSR car was modified with a 2,500 hp Rolls-Royce R engine. With new bodywork, the car surpassed 300 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1935.

Team JCB brought a Hydrogen powered streamliner to speedweek. They broke the AA (dual engine) Blown Gas Streamliner (BGS) by 20 mph and achieved a record of 268.347 mph.
The pilot of the vehicle, Andy Green, is the fastest man on earth holding a 763.035mph (Mach 1.05) land speed record. All vehicles must pass a technical inspection and all new vehicles must have the operator perform a bailout. I was part of the technical team who conducted the bailout and performed the technical inspection.

My good friend Bill Daily, Land Speed Racers (LSR) club president and fellow land speed racer set a new land speed record of 150.393 mph in the K (500 cc) Blown Fuel Lakester (BFL). The previous record of 140.523 mph was set in August 2009. Yours truly was honored to help with starting line preparation and drive the push truck.

The prep for Bonneville Speedweek 2026 continues. Few upgrades to the #834 STR.
1. Engine swap from El Mirage to Bonneville.
2. Clean up a little engine plumbing spaghetti from a previous dyno session on Bonneville engine.
3. Paint touch up on rear of car, buffing and polish next week
4. Some assembly required.
