On a closed port day we explored San Gervasio and saw a couple of these little guys.

The coati, known in Yucatec Maya as chi'ik and in Spanish as pizote, holds a deep, multi-layered significance in ancient Mayan history and regional folklore. On Cozumel, hundreds of coati bones dating from 100 to 1500 AD have been uncovered at major archaeological sites like San Gervasio, confirming they were widespread and deeply woven into pre-Columbian life.

Yesterday with the port still closed and the day before we all leave this wonderful island of Cozumel, we went for a little history lesson. We learned the Mayans and San Gervasio.

The people at Island Divers Cozumel always have great alternative ideas for when the port is closed.

Yesterday we joined up with Blue Life diving and discovered cenote diving. We when down to Tulum and dove The Pit and Dos Ojos. Different dives and so beautiful and relaxing! Thank you Hugo, Thomas and Gaby!!

It was a great first day. With everyone meeting on the dock and meeting the boat crews of Island Divers Cozumel. We had some doing their very first ocean dives to others first time in Cozumel, everyone enjoyed the diving. Nurse sharks, rays, eels, juvenile manta shrimp, lobsters are just some of what we saw yesterday.

This amazing dive adventure is about to begin. The Westin Cozumel is a beautiful beach resort and the amenities are excellent. Island Divers Cozumel is is on the property now with a new shop and a dock for the Chiquimaxes to dock up on!!
