Bharatanatyam takes time, repetition, coordination, and patience — and that’s exactly what class is for. We focus on building strong foundations in rhythm, posture, coordination, and technique, while giving children a supportive space to learn and enjoy dancing together.

Our new children’s classes in Santa Clara begin September 17, and new students are welcome!

Backstage at the Cherry Blossom Festival 🌸❤️

One of the best parts of performing together is everything that happens around the performance — getting ready, helping each other, the last-minute checks, the nerves, the laughter… and, of course, the backstage selfies. 😊

When your youngest class somehow gives you a coordinated candid shot 😂❤️

There is so much that goes into getting our youngest dancers ready for the stage — learning to listen to the music, remember their spacing, dance together, and keep going no matter what happens.

And then every once in a while, you get a moment like this. ✨

So proud of these little dancers and how much they grew through the process.

A small detail that can completely change the balance of this movement.

In our style of Bharatanatyam, we lower onto the toe in this position. But one thing I really emphasize with my students: where does that supporting toe land?

If the foot reaches too far forward, the body starts to lunge forward with it. Instead, I ask my students to keep the toe much more underneath their center.

That allows the body to lower while staying centered and grounded, rather than reaching forward and straining the movement and body.

Such a small adjustment, but you can really feel the difference. ✨

One of my favorite parts of teaching Bharatanatyam is noticing the little things — where the weight shifts, how an adavu settles into the body, where the eyes go, and how intention changes a movement.

Sometimes the smallest correction makes the biggest difference. ✨

September 2021. A time when so much of dance had moved online, and we were all finding new ways to keep creating. 💕

This clip is one I recorded at home back then, working through some jathi choreography, experimenting with rhythm and structure. It was something I put together to share with my peers and dig into the craft, exploring what I could do with movement.

Looking back, some of the most honest creative work happens in these low-pressure spaces, no stage, no audience, just the joy of experimenting. That spirit of exploration is something I try to bring into everything I teach now.

Grown women, sharing a stage together, years into their dance journeys.

Careers, families, full lives, and still they carry this art with them. Still they show up, rehearse, and step into the light together. This is what Bharatanatyam looks like when it stays with you into adulthood.

A little throwback to performing at the Art All Night festival with Shraddha.

People often think Bharatanatyam is something you do as a kid and eventually grow out of. But some of the most meaningful dancing happens later, when you return to it as an adult, on your own terms, for yourself.

There is something powerful about still being on stage, still growing, still finding new things in this art form years into it. It is never too late to start, and never too late to come back.
