Hello all this is Coach Derric,
With try-outs coming up this weekend I wanted to send a message out to all PHD Players. Every kid that has stepped through the doors for training leading up to these tryouts has been working so so so hard. Remember how hard you have been working to get prepared. Use that and give yourself some confidence.
A great question to ask yourself is, “what gives you confidence?” What ever your answer is I guarantee it involves you having to tell yourself that you have done something good. Your the only person that can give yourself true confidence. Coaches can say your doing great, parents can say your doing great, but it takes you yourself to procces that and believe what they are saying is true.
If any player needs anything before these tryouts, please reach out, I don’t mind at all answering phone calls, text messages, or emails to help any of our players get pumped up for their skate.
Play hard, play tough, play safe, and have a blast doing it. Good luck everyone!!
My email: [email protected]
Congrats to all our PHD players that won Championships and were Finalist this past weekend! If any parents have championship photos, send them in! Good luck to all other players competing in playoffs this upcoming weekend!
Congratulations to Kevin!

We send our deepest condolences to the Balkind family. A young athlete with many, many years of hockey and life left to live. It’s times like these that hockey comunity seems small and looks to each other for support.
Look good, feel good, play good! THE PHD WAY!!
Shooting mechanics and technique are very important. There is also the mental side of everything we do. As a player you are lucky to get 4-6 shots on net a game… be excited to shoot the puck! We don’t have to be maniacs about it like our friend Ovi, but have some real WANT to put pucks in the net. Than watch the results.
Today’s PHD player motivation!
We as coaches should always be trying to use sports to help kids prepare for later in life. Great example here from coach Jon Beck…
U15 Little Caps forwards Dylan Anderson and Derek Yamatani putting in the work last night with a hour long edge specific work out session.
PHD is able to offer specific individualized training sessions geared to you or your player. Ask about our group sessions, as they are a great option to try out our training. Also you can rent the ice for your team and have Coach Trudeau or any other coach on the PHD staff run a small area, high tempo skills session.
The only way we move forward is to step outside our “comfort zone.” Challenge yourself by going harder and harder every practice, every drill, every rep. Do the same every game, period, and shift. Do that and watch your game improve quickly. Also, watch for the person you will become… a hard working individual that works well with others.
Years ago, if you talked to a coach, he or she would talk your ears off about the kids he or she coached and where they are now… whether it be NHL, NCAA D1, Europe, or even police force, medicine, small business owner, etc…
Now, you hear a lot of coaches talking about their banners, season records, and the drills they do.
At the end of the day, we as coaches have to go back to bestowing morals and values upon players. We see our players almost as much as teachers see their students and therefore coaches take on a large role in molding a kid. Mold a true hockey player by helping them be the absolute best they can be. Be that person that believes in them to do great things.
Friendly competition is needed to push players. It’s also a valuable tool in real life work situations. Coaching is not just about hockey but it is about the bigger picture. Let’s make sure our players succeed on the ice and off the ice.
Little advice for parents and coaches what to watch for in your athletes practice. Little things that translate greatly to games.
There are things we CAN CONTROL ourselves no matter what our skill level is.
Checking on players as much as possible is crucial to make sure training is translating and that the athlete is developing. Good luck to all PHD players today
