Jenna!

Jenna started workout out at CrossFit Reverb over the summer after her husband highly recommended it to her. Since then, she has loved working out with a community with a wide range of experience being guided by knowledgeable coaches. She feels like she accomplishes her goals during every workout. Even though CrossFit is new to her, she feels confident in knowing that the coaches will guide her through every workout and every movement to make sure she gets to most out of her sessions at her own level.

Her kids also love the CrossFit Kids classes! After watching both Jenna and her husband doing cool CrossFit workouts, they wanted to get into it as well and now attend kids classes along with other friends. She’s noticed that they’re being more purposeful with their bodies and this class provides them with a good outlet for their endless energy.

Keep up the great work Jenna and family!

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated, but food quality matters.

Real foods like meat, eggs, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, rice, nuts, and seeds give your body protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and energy it can actually use.

Fast food and highly processed foods can absolutely fit occasionally, but when they make up most of your diet, you’re often getting more calories with less nutrition, less fiber, and less staying power.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s simply to make real, minimally processed food your default and convenience food the exception.

Eat foods that help you feel better, recover better, and perform better.

Protein bars and shakes are convenient — but they shouldn’t be your main source of protein.

Whenever possible, get most of your protein from real food.

Think eggs, chicken, fish, lean beef, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu, and legumes.

Whole foods give you protein plus the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your body needs to recover and perform well.

Bars and shakes can absolutely help on busy days, but think of them as backup — not the foundation.

Simple rule: food first, supplements when needed.

Denise!

Denise is a professional dancer and teacher who has danced her entire life. She recently started weight training at CrossFit Reverb because she knows the importance of building muscle for bone health as she ages. Even after two hip replacements, and with professional guidance from our coaches, Denise has gained strength and flexibility and feels more able and energetic to demonstrate while teaching dance.
She enjoys the positivity, the community, and the specific coaching each person receives from the coaches.

Great work Denise!

Being able to push hard is a central pillar of CrossFit, but knowing how hard to push and when is the real skill. Also known as pacing.
What exactly is pacing?

Pacing is strategically distributing your energy, speed, and effort over time or distance to prevent early fatigue. Essentially it is a way to help you avoid “hitting a wall” during your workout.

Pacing can look different for every workout:

A short AMRAP might call for higher intensity
A long chipper style might require a long, consistent effort
A heavy barbell might require strategic time breaks to maintain strength
It is important to note that starting a workout fast isn’t always wrong. It truly depends on the workout and the athlete. The problem is starting a workout at a pace that you struggle to maintain.

How can you improve your pacing?

Before the workout: Read the workout before the clock starts. Try to figure out a plan for yourself. Consider how long the workout will take and which movements will be the most difficult for you.

(Talk to your coach who has seen you go out too hot before for a reality check!)

Pacing helps you understand your capabilities and make smarter decisions, and like any skill in CrossFit, it gets easier with practice.

Next time you look at the whiteboard, don’t just ask yourself “How fast can I finish the workout?”

Ask “What pace will allow me to finish just as strong as I started?”
