Tomorrow a new session begins! While summer can be busy, schedules can be crazy, and the warm weather can make you want to skip your workouts, one of the biggest keys to success in your fitness journey is consistency.
You know if you show up to NLXF, even on your worst days you’re still going to get a good workout. You know you’re going to feel better when that workout is done. So what’s the key? Make time. If you’re not a morning person, but 5AM is the only time that works for you that day - make it happen. I guarantee that you’ll feel better when you’re done and you’ll likely be proud of yourself for going out of your comfort zone. Your workout will put you in a better mood, give you more confidence and even if you don’t get amazing results over the summer, staying consistent will prevent you from going backwards and sometimes that’s as much of a win as making progress.
At NLXF, you will get great workouts - all you have to do is show up. From there the ball is in your court on how much you want to get out of them.
Things to know for Week 1:
* We are switching things up a bit for the summer session. There won’t be any kickboxing on Wednesdays this session. We will be incorporating different things as the session goes on. We will have quite a bit more focus on strength throughout the week. We are going to throw a lot of new stuff at you: new exercises, new formats, new challenges. We are very excited for what’s to come and mark my words - eight weeks from now I bet many returning members will look back at this session as your favorite session in a long time.
*If you signed up online, when you come in for class (if you haven’t done so already), we will have some paperwork for you to fill out and you will be able to pick up your keycard for scanning in as well. Please make sure to scan in each day using that keycard. Some of the paperwork might be redundant from what you filled out online, but it’s for our records at the gym.
*Every Friday, you will need gloves and wraps for kickboxing. If you have not done kickboxing before and want to participate on Fridays, please see Ryan and set up a time to get acclimated to kickboxing before taking a Friday class.
*There is no 5:30PM class on Fridays.
*You’ll want to join the “NLXF Accountability Group - Des Moines” page on Facebook. We do a lot of our general announcements on our main page, but it is a bit easier to receive the actual notifications when you are in this private group. This group is also great for general banter, recipe ideas and other general information.
*Introduce yourselves to us! You’ll find me (Ryan) at most classes. We also have several other trainers that you will get to know as well. We will learn your name and if you need to modify something, we will be right there to help you with it. It might take us a bit to remember your name or remember the specific modifications you need, but one thing I’ve built this program around is continuity. I’m a big believer in having fewer coaches and knowing our members on a first-name basis. With our program, we will get to know you, your limits and will learn how to push you and how to work with you to get the most out of your workouts.

We want to congratulate our Partner Best Transformation Winners from our last session:
Nate Frederich and Angie Crooks!
Both of these amazing people are long-time NLXF members, and they are two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
Angie is actually the reason Nate joined the gym, and it didn’t take him long to fit right in and become part of the NLXF family. Nate has always been his own toughest critic. Even when he took his after photos for this session, he said, “There won’t be any change, but I figured I’d take them anyway.” Well… he was wrong. 🙂 While his transformation may not be as dramatic as Angie’s, the results are still impressive and a testament to his consistency and hard work.
This was Angie’s first transformation session back after taking some time away due to a busy schedule. She also makes the drive from Ankeny every single day. A few weeks ago, another member told me that Angie had tried gyms closer to home, but nothing gave her the same experience she gets at NLXF. Hearing things like that means the world to us. And Angie, we’re glad you keep making the trip because you are an awesome part of our community.
I couldn’t be more proud to recognize these two as our Best Transformation Winners.

This Saturday we are giving our chip timing system a test, and you’ll get a great workout in the process!
You will get to see all of your splits and you’ll get to see where your strengths and weaknesses are as a team!
Both partners will be assigned a chip when you come in the lobby, and it will be worn on your ankle. The timing system will track you and your partner together as one team starting from the first time you leave the double doors and after you finish your final station, you’ll run out those same double doors to finish your workout.
*Stations can be done in any order*
Cost is $20/team for NLXF members and for each category (Male, Female, Mixed), each member of each winning team will receive a $25 gift card to Blue Shark.
Registration is OPEN and capped at 25 teams per class.

It’s all coming together!
Our first full sim will be Saturday, July 11th!
Registration opens tomorrow at noon.
All 8 stations. All 8 runs. Fully chip-timed - no stopwatches or manual timing. You’ll get the full experience of a real HYROX race simulation.
We will have heats of 4 individuals/teams starting every 10 minutes beginning at 6AM. Heats will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Child care will be available for heats beginning at 8AM.
Every athlete will receive detailed split times for each run and each station through our live chip timing system. There will be a live leaderboard displayed in the gym on the big screen, along with an online leaderboard updating every 10 seconds for spectators and anyone unable to attend in person.
We will be hosting one full sim per month from July through October, with August, September, and October dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
Early Bird Registration (through June 12th)
Individual Race
$70 - NLXF Members
$85 - Non-Members
Doubles Race
$120/team - NLXF Members
$140/team - Non-Members
All prices increase by $20 after June 12th.
Each early bird registrant will also receive an NLXF swag bag.
Prize Payouts:
Winners of each division will receive a cash prize equal to 10% of that division’s total entry fees.
Example:
If 20 female doubles teams register at $110/team, that division would generate $2,200 in entries, meaning the winning team would receive $220.
We will also be looking for volunteer judges and admin assistance for the event. Volunteers will receive 50% off their race entry. Volunteers will have the option to race at 8:30AM or later. We also might be running a Friday late afternoon wave or two for NLXF staff + volunteers.

Happy birthday to our very own Kaley Grotnes! This girl has been a blessing to us at NLXF. She’s always willing to fill-in for others, she’s always ready to take on anything thrown at her and she’s the definition of someone that leads by example.
Kaley might be a year older, but I’d be willing to bet that she’s in the best shape of her entire life. She’s always been fit, but this past year she decided to lock things in more than ever and she’s consistently pushed herself out of her comfort zone in effort to bring forth the best version of herself. She has definitely succeeded! She looks great, she’s strong as can be and she’s as determined as ever.
We can’t wait to see what another year of Kaley being on this path brings! All of us at NLXF love watching her excel in everything she does!
