What changes will have the longest-lasting impact?
When we asked Bryan Nistler what he believes will make the biggest difference moving forward, his answer came down to something simple: the systems behind the team.
A lot of work went into getting their price book in the computer and making sure it aligned with what was happening on the back end of the office.
Why does that matter?
Because now the technicians aren't trying to sort through countless options or figure everything out while standing in front of the homeowner.
The process is already there for them.
Their options are organized. Pricing is aligned. The office and field are working from the same system. And technicians can spend less time worrying about how to present everything and more time having a great conversation with the customer.
That's what strong systems are supposed to do.
Make the right process easier for your people to execute consistently.
Sometimes the biggest improvements aren't the ones customers immediately see—they're the systems behind the scenes that allow your team to serve them better.

Scaling smart isn’t about stepping away from your business.
It’s about building a business that doesn’t depend on you for every decision, every problem, and every next step.
As companies grow, owners often become the person everyone turns to. The team knows the process—but they still ask the owner. A problem comes up—the owner fixes it. A decision needs to be made—the owner makes it.
Eventually, the owner becomes the system.
That isn’t scalable.
Real growth happens when expectations are clear, processes are documented, responsibilities have ownership, and your team has the confidence to execute without constantly looking for approval.
You should still lead your business.
Your business just shouldn’t stop working when you step out of the room.
That’s what scaling smart looks like.
Connection changes everything.
Before a homeowner trusts your recommendation, they need to feel like they can trust you.
That connection doesn’t come from having the perfect sales pitch. It comes from slowing down, listening, asking the right questions, and genuinely understanding what matters to the person standing in front of you.
At CTM, we teach technicians that the goal isn’t to walk into a home and immediately start selling.
Connect first.
When homeowners feel heard, they become more comfortable. When they feel comfortable, communication becomes easier. And when trust is established, you can have a completely different conversation about their needs and options.
People may forget exactly what you said—but they’ll remember whether they felt like you were truly there for them.
Connection builds trust. Trust builds confidence. And confidence creates better decisions.
Why do so many HVAC companies struggle to implement what they already know?
Usually, it’s not a lack of knowledge.
Most owners already know what needs to improve. The real challenge is getting the entire team aligned and consistently executing the process.
A new system won’t work if expectations aren’t clear, responsibilities aren’t assigned, and no one knows who owns what.
That’s where implementation begins.
1️⃣ Create ownership and accountability.
Every task needs an owner, a timeline, and a clear expectation. Once the process begins, protect it. Manage the system, not every individual move.
2️⃣ Stop trying to fix everything at once.
When everything becomes a priority, nothing is a priority. Identify your top three challenges, choose the most important one, and implement it completely before moving to the next.
3️⃣ Give the process time to work.
Real change rarely happens overnight. Slow, steady ex*****on creates habits—and habits create sustainable results.
Your team probably knows more than you think.
The question is: Do you have the structure to consistently put that knowledge into action?
Clarity creates confidence.
Confidence creates consistency.
Consistency creates results.
I’m heading back out to McGregor Minnesota with Nistler Plumbing and Heating, Inc. for two weeks to wrap up the summer series we’ve been doing out there.
I’m pretty excited to see how everything gets implemented in the field. We just finished up the price pages last time, and now we get to put it all into action. Super exciting! Can’t wait to get back out there and get back to work!
🔥 HVAC Owners & Managers—Matt Chats is back September 3rd!
Summer is the busiest time of year in HVAC—but is all that activity actually translating into more sales and profitability?
Because being busy doesn’t automatically mean your business is growing.
Sometimes your team doesn’t need to work harder. You need clarity, alignment, and the right systems behind the work you’re already doing.
That’s exactly what we’re getting into during our next Matt Chats.
In this live, interactive 2-hour session, we’ll break down the business mechanics that directly impact growth and profitability, including:
✅ The Threading Effect and aligning communication from office to field
✅ Your true break-even point
✅ How sales must cover overhead
✅ The residential replacement business model
✅ Strategies to improve close rates and turn more opportunities into revenue
