The trial is next weekend… and I’m still not sure She-Ra is ready.

For me, a BH with a young dog isn’t just about whether she can pass.

It’s her first experience on a trial field — and that experience matters.

There are no rewards, very little feedback, and she’s still learning the entire time. I want her to understand that the same rules still apply, even when I can’t communicate with her the way I normally do in training.

Most importantly, I don’t want her first trial to teach her something I’ll have to undo later.

I care about the pass, of course. But I care even more about her confidence, her understanding, and what she takes away from the experience.

So… will She-Ra do her BH next weekend?

Still deciding. 👀

Impulse control + table manners... at dinner. 🍽️

Staying neutral to dogs, strollers, kids playing, people passing by, real life doesn't pause for training.

Our system: master the task WITHOUT distractions first. Then we build the leadership relationship, so she knows how to get feedback and do the right thing, before she's ever tested in a place like this.

Foundation set = ready for the real world.

Puppies → Canine Good Citizens. Reactive dogs → same steps, just a longer path.

Every dog learns differently, which is why our training programs are tailored to each individual dog's needs. Through structured exposure and controlled environments, we help dogs learn how to stay calm, focused, and confident around the things that may have previously overwhelmed them.

IGP Protection is always a crowd favorite, and Bravo definitely agrees. 🐾

This routine is an incredible display of power, speed, and control, with total trust and connection between dog and handler. Even more interesting? The entire routine is based on a real-life apprehension scenario, with each exercise representing a different step.

IGP dogs bring the intensity every single time.

Comment "PROTECTION" if you want to learn more about how this routine works.

The first thing we teach every puppy isn't a command. It's engagement.

Most people start with leash pressure, teaching the puppy to give in and comply. Or they lure with treats into positions they want. We do neither.

Instead, we teach the puppy that WE are the fun part. Before "sit" or "stay," we build engagement and a fun recall, because that's the foundation everything else stands on.

Here's why it matters: a puppy that's engaged with you doesn't need to be forced into obedience later, it comes naturally, because the dog genuinely wants to be near you and work with you. And a recall built on fun instead of pressure or bribery teaches the puppy something bigger than ""come when called."" It teaches them you're a good place to be.

No leash pressure. No luring. Just a puppy who thinks learning is a game.

That's day one. Everything else gets built from here.

Retirement doesn’t mean the bond retires, too. ❤️

Bravo and I have always been deeply in tune with each other. The work we did together in IGP created a bond that goes far beyond training.

Today, Bravo is retired because of an injury, not simply because he’s getting older. While he can no longer do the powerful movements required for IGP, he still wants to be involved in everything we do. So instead of working him, he’s simply part of our everyday life, enjoying being a dog.

If there’s one thing I want people to understand about retired working dogs, it’s this: don’t assume they don’t still want to come along and be part of the action. Their work was their whole life. Find new things to enjoy together and remind them that they’re still your best.

And in Bravo’s case, I tell him every day: you’re my bestest of the bestest. 🐾❤️

We use agility in IGP (shown here), but it isn't just for high-drive sport dogs. Agility is a great way for dogs of all sizes to build confidence, focus, and teamwork with their handler.

Atlas is figuring out the proper way to scale the wall. Agility obstacles are a great tool for dogs of all sizes to build confidence, focus, and teamwork.
