Some players lead with words. Others lead by example. Samson Nieto has spent nine years earning the right to do both.
A senior at Windsor High School and captain of the Black Sheep, Samson has been playing rugby for nearly a decade. He’s represented USA West Rugby on four tours to Tropical 7s in Florida and competed at NAI 7s with both TOA and Rock Rugby. Years of competition, travel, and playing alongside some of the best young talent in the game have helped shape the player and leader he is today.
And his commitment to rugby doesn’t stop when he steps off the pitch.
For the past three years, Samson has helped coach youth TRY rugby, including leading two undefeated teams. He’s gone from learning the game as a young player to helping the next generation discover it for themselves. That’s what growing the game is all about.
Rugby is only part of his athletic story. Samson spent seven years on the wrestling mat, earning an 8th Grade State Championship. He also played seven years of football on both sides of the ball, collecting three State Championships along the way.
Off the pitch, you’ll find him golfing, cooking, or putting in work at the gym. Apparently, sitting still isn’t really his thing. 😂
As captain of our inaugural High School 7s team, Samson has taken on the challenge of helping build something from the ground up. Leading a new team isn’t always easy, but he’s no stranger to hard work or responsibility.
Nine years playing rugby. Three years coaching it. Four USA West tours. Four state championships across two sports. And two undefeated youth teams.
Samson represents something we believe strongly in at Black Sheep: Rugby is bigger than the game itself. It’s about what you give back.
We’re proud to have him leading the pink and black.
Lead from the front, Samson. Finish strong. 🐏🔥
