🤝Meet a Coach Monday🤝
Coach Chuck began his jiu-jitsu journey in 2005 while primarily focused on MMA. Early on, he recognized that gi training developed a tighter, more technical game, so he made it a priority in his training. That philosophy later became the foundation of Tri-Force BJJ, which was established as a primarily gi-focused school.
Chuck went on to compete on The Ultimate Fighter, fight for the UFC and Bellator, and win titles in multiple promotions while competing in professional MMA at 170 lbs before later moving to 185 lbs.
Throughout his pro MMA career, he maintained a deep passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After retiring from an 11-year MMA career, he shifted his focus fully to BJJ and earned his black belt under Carlos Machado in 2017.
Having trained under some of the sport’s top coaches and black belts, during an era when even finding a BJJ purple belt was a rarity, and continuing to actively train as the sport evolves, Coach Chuck brings both old-school fundamentals and modern techniques to his teaching. He is committed to meeting each student where they are and helping them achieve their goals, whether that means having fun, building confidence, or becoming a successful competitor. His knowledge, experience, and the success of his students have earned him a reputation as one of the area’s most respected coaches. He leads by example, prioritizing time for his family and students, while actively competing as an IBJJF certified black belt, and creating the positive yet hard-working culture that defines Tri-Force BJJ.

Age: 29
How long have you been a member?: 1 year
How long have you been training BJJ?: 1 year
What made you want to start training?: I think it’s important for a man to know how to protect himself. Life can be unpredictable and you can never be too prepared. Plus it’s way more way more fun than the gym!
What motivates you to continue coming to class?: No motivation needed. I’m completely addicted. I go as often as my schedule allows without hesitation.
What’s the most rewarding part of practicing BJJ?: It’s tough at first but once you start linking moves together and winning rounds against people used to wipe the floor with you there’s no better feeling.
How would you describe the training and atmosphere of Tri-Force to someone who’s never been there?: The atmosphere is friendly. You’ll get out of it what you put into it. If you want to go nuts and try to kill each other there’s guys that will do that all day with you or if you want to just chill or are nursing an injury there’s people that will accommodate that and everything in between!
What advice would you give someone looking to start BJJ?: Just Do It!

Congrats to our students on their May stripe promotions! Big congrats to Delilah and Aidan for earning their solid grey belts and Wyatt and Adriel for earning their grey and white belts. Also Antonio for earning his purple belt before we sent him off to horrible Pittsburgh! All of these promotions were very much earned not given! We all work hard together and grow together through every training session. Week after week month after month!
