OLD PRO'S LUNCH

I hosted an Old Pro’s lunch at Zwartkop on Thursday. It was fabulous to get together with the likes of Alan Henning; Cobie le Grange; Selwyn Nathan; Denis Hutchinson; Theo Manyama; Robbie Stewart; Richard Kaplan; and Andries Oosthuizen.

Alan lifted the SA Open Trophy 63 years ago and Cobie won the British Dunlop Masters twice and beat Jack Nicklaus, going head to head in the Australian Masters in 1964.

Two of South Africa’s top Club Professionals Mike de Villiers and Athol Dowie attended too. Both are retired but Mike worked at Modderfontein and Athol at Pretoria CC for over 80 years combined. Quite phenomenal.

Two long-time industry leaders joined us too – Gary Treger and Doug Vilas (Ping).

Today's river cleanup at Zwartkop, organised by Hennops Revival, showed what can be achieved when a community comes together. A remarkable 259 bags of litter were collected and 136 invasive alien trees were removed.

A glimmer of hope for our environment — faint, but undeniable. Thank you to every volunteer who made a difference today!
