Red patches, bald spots, thickened skin and little lumps… our pets can develop all sorts of interesting-looking marks! But not every spot has the same cause, or needs the same treatment.
In our latest post, we take a closer look at four common ones.
Remember, if a spot is red, sore, moist, bleeding, smelly, getting bigger, or being constantly licked or scratched, it’s worth having it checked by your vet.
When in doubt, don’t just spot the spot, get it checked! 😉

Meet Tjoppie: small in stature, BIG in personality! 🐾
If there was a dress code for physiotherapy, Tjoppie would be winning best dressed every single time. Especially in this bitterly cold weather, this dapper little gentleman arrives for his physio sessions in his finest jacket, looking every bit the stylish Yorkie he knows himself to be!
Tjoppie is currently visiting us for physiotherapy following surgeries to help manage his luxating patella. His sessions are helping him build strength, stability and confidence so those little legs can keep doing what they do best.
At home, he has a kitty cat friend who occasionally comes to visit. And when either his feline friend (or any other unexpected new face) walks through the door, Tjoppie immediately enters "panic-eating mode". 🍽️ Why risk someone else getting to his gourmet dinner when you can simply polish off the entire thing first?
And then there are the hadedas.
Apparently a bird twice his size landing in the garden is not a cause for concern… it is a personal challenge. Tjoppie will happily charge off in hot pursuit, because in true Yorkie fashion, he believes he is a MUCH bigger doggy than he actually is.
Keep strutting, Tjoppie. The jacket, the attitude and the determination are all absolutely impeccable.
