Alpha Centurion Athletics Club

The running club with heart. Whether you are fast or slow, young or old - this is the running club where you will become family. It was organised by Willem Louw.

The home of the Wally Hayward Marathon. Also known as ACRW
Twitter: In October 1976, a marathon was held in Verwoerdburg over 26Km, known as the Verwoerdburg Marathon. This gave rise to the thought of a local marathon club. Willem Louw and the de B**r brothers, Thys and Chris, held an inaugural meeting. Later, "Tiny" Liebenberg and Kobus Louw joined. After affiliating with another group, they became the Verwoerdburg Athletic Club. This later changed to the Verwoerdburg Marathon Club and again later to Alpha Centurion Runners, when Verwoerdburg's name changed to Centurion. In 2010 it was decided to include "and Walkers" to the name, thus the current name Alpha Centurion Runners and Walkers (or ACRW for short)

In 2021 the name was changed to Alpha Centurion Athletics Club (or ACAC for short). This was done to include all athletic sports like Road running, Trail running, Track athletics and walking.

Runner logic: “I really should stretch more.”
Also runner logic: buys a foam roller, uses it twice, and then forgets it exists. 😂🏃‍♀️

Runner brain at bedtime: “I should sleep.”
Also runner brain: But did I charge my watch? Where are my socks? What pace am I running? What’s the weather? 😂🏃‍♀️

Sleep is apparently optional when there’s a run tomorrow!

Which Runner are you?

When the running WhatsApp group is somehow more active than all the school WhatsApp groups… combined!

Race entries, route changes, weather updates, pace debates, “who’s running?”, coffee plans… and absolutely no shortage of opinions.

At this point, it’s not a running group. It’s a full-time social network. 🐢

The most important part of the "Social" Runs are the socials afterwards...!!

Which one are you?!

Happy Heritage Day, Skillies!

Today we celebrate the people, stories, cultures and traditions that make South Africa so wonderfully diverse. And just like running, we may all have different journeys, different paces and different starting points — but we share the same road and the same passion.

Here’s to our people, our heritage and our running family.
Different people. Same passion. One Skillie family. 🐢

For our Skillies who took on the Ultra Midmar Triathlon, it wasn’t just about the time on the clock. It was about pushing limits, conquering challenges, making memories and sharing the journey with our running family. 💪🏼🐢

Well done, Skillies! 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♂️🔥
