Legacy & Abundance

Today we celebrate Youth Day. 🇿🇦

It is a day that reminds us that every generation inherits something from those who came before it.

At ActionCOACH iNala, our name means abundance in Zulu.
When I think about abundance, I don't think only about financial success.

I think about possibility. 🚀
About creating a future that offers more opportunities than the one we inherited. 🌍

Many South Africans share a similar hope. We want our children and grandchildren to have the freedom to build meaningful lives here. We want them to see a future worth pursuing without feeling they need to leave South Africa to find opportunity, or face a future where the dignity, purpose and possibility that meaningful work provides remain out of reach.

That future is built one business at a time.

âś…Every business that grows creates opportunities for families.
âś…Every business that develops leaders strengthens communities.
âś…Every business that becomes sustainable contributes to a stronger economy.

When business owners invest in their people, improve their businesses, and build organisations that can endure, they create far more than profit.

They create possibility. ✨

And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful legacies we can leave the next generation.

This Youth Day, I am grateful for the business owners, entrepreneurs, and leaders who continue to build despite uncertainty, who continue to invest despite challenges, and who continue to believe that South Africa's best days can still lie ahead.

🌟 Wishing you a meaningful and reflective Youth Day.

✨🚀

GROWTH CAN ACTUALLY HIDE PROBLEMS FOR A WHILE

One of the interesting things about growth is that it can temporarily hide weaknesses in a business.

When sales are strong, many problems become easier to ignore. Poor systems, weak accountability, inconsistent follow-up, customer frustration and owner bottlenecks can all sit under the surface for a while.

Revenue can cover a lot of inefficiency.

But eventually growth places pressure on everything. What was manageable at one size often becomes exhausting at another.

I think this is why some businesses become harder to run as they grow. The business scaled faster than the underlying systems, leadership and discipline.

The owner ends up carrying more pressure instead of less.

The strongest businesses I see are usually not obsessed only with “more growth.” They are equally focused on building the capability to handle growth well.

Better communication, better accountability, better customer experience, clearer systems and faster follow-through may not sound exciting, but they are often what allow growth to become sustainable.

Because growth amplifies whatever already exists.

And over time, businesses either compound momentum or compound friction.

What a powerful and thought-provoking morning at Simbithi Country Club Ballito listening to Shirley Pearson from Action Coach iNala speak on the topic of COURAGE.

One of the biggest takeaways was that courage is not a feeling… it’s a decision. The confidence comes afterwards. So many of us stay stuck in the “waiting game” ... waiting for the money, the timing, the stars to align, or for someone else to make the move first. But there is a cost to playing safe.

Shirley reminded us that extraordinary results require extraordinary effort, and that life rewards momentum. We don’t need earth-shattering action overnight, small consistent steps create movement, and movement creates growth. She spoke about the importance of clarity, breaking goals down into actionable steps, and understanding your deeper “why” behind every decision.

As women especially, we often carry guilt, fear, pressure, and far too many “tabs” open at once. But guilt and regret don’t serve us. Fear often lives in the future, while courage asks us to take the next step anyway. Sometimes the conversations we avoid the most are the exact conversations we need to have.

A few standout reminders:

✨ Don’t let perfection slow down progress
✨ If it’s 80% right, move forward
✨ Be kind to yourself on the journey
✨ Stop sacrificing yourself for everyone else
✨ Courage doesn’t feel comfortable
✨ Life keeps giving opportunities, & no experience is wasted
✨ If you’re not growing, you’re dying
✨ Who do you need to become to fulfil your dream?

One of the most powerful questions asked today was:

“What decision are you going to make today on the back of this discussion?”

Thank you Shirley for such an authentic, insightful and impactful talk. You challenged us to think deeper, act braver, and stop waiting for permission to create the life and business we truly want. đź’«

GROWTH IS NOT ONLY ABOUT MORE NEW CUSTOMERS
by Shirley Foster Pearson

When sales slow down, the first instinct is often to look for more leads. More marketing, more campaigns, more prospecting, more activity.

Sometimes that is needed. But it is not always the first place to look.

Many businesses are losing growth momentum through the customers they already have. The follow-up becomes inconsistent. Communication slows. The customer experience is not as strong as it should be. Referrals are left to chance. And slowly, the business starts leaking opportunity.

Retained customers are incredibly valuable. They already know you. They already have experience of your business. They are more likely to buy again, refer you, and become part of your future growth.

But that only happens if the relationship is properly looked after.

I think stronger businesses understand that retention is not just a customer service issue. It is a growth strategy.

Because the stronger your customer relationships are, the less pressure you place on constantly finding new ones.

PRESSURE IS NOT THE SAME AS PERFORMANCE
by Shirley Foster Pearson

I often see business owners respond to slower growth by adding more pressure into the business. More meetings, more follow-up, more urgency, more reporting and more pressure on sales teams.

Sometimes that feels necessary. But pressure on its own rarely creates sustainable performance.

In fact, too much pressure can create the opposite. Teams become reactive. Decisions become rushed. Customers feel the strain. And the owner often ends up carrying even more of the weight.

The businesses that seem to create better momentum are not always working harder than everyone else. They are often better at removing the small points of friction that slow growth down.

Things like poor follow-up, unclear accountability, slow decisions, inconsistent customer experience and weak handovers may not seem dramatic on their own. But together they create drag.

And drag kills momentum.

I think one of the most useful questions a business owner can ask is not, “How do we get everyone to do more?”

It is, “Where is the business making growth harder than it needs to be?”

That is usually where the real work starts.

One of our biggest takeaways from today’s GrowthCLUB was this:

✨ “Don’t work harder… become a better business person.” ✨

We explored the idea that business growth is not just strategy and numbers — it’s also energy, intention, clarity, and who you become in the process.

A few “blinding flashes of the obvious” that really stood out for me:

• The Law of Attraction in business is about becoming the type of business that naturally attracts the right customers.

• A-grade clients are attracted to A-grade businesses.

• Don’t chase customers — create value, build excellence, and attract them to you.

• Clarity creates momentum. The more specific your goals, vision, and intention, the more focused your actions become.

• Growth needs SPACE. If there’s no room for more clients, more opportunities, or bigger goals, growth struggles to happen. Sometimes growth starts with something as simple as opening space in your calendar, upgrading systems, hiring support, or planning for expansion before it arrives.

• Energy matters. Your physical, emotional, and mental energy impacts your results more than most people realise.

One concept I loved was:
BE x DO = HAVE

Be the person you need to be.
Do the activity you need to do.
Then you create the result you want to have

Another powerful reminder:
“The moment you commit, all the right things start to show up.”

So the question I’m asking myself is:
👉 What needs to change in my business to attract the level of clients and opportunities I truly want?

Because ultimately, our goal in life and business is not to chase success… but to become the kind of person and business that naturally attracts it.

Growth. Intention. Energy. Action. Expansion.

That’s the focus. 🚀
