Norm-Hudlin Trails parkrun #223 – Welcome Back! 💙💚

After a two-week break forced upon us by the recent waterlogged conditions, it was wonderful to be back on our beautiful trails on Saturday morning for Event #223. While the weather certainly reminded us that winter isn't over yet, with a bitterly cold start to our pre-Women's Day parkrun, 114 hardy walkers, joggers and runners chose fresh air, friendship and five kilometres over the warmth of their beds – and for that, we salute every one of you! ❄️👏
After the recent heavy rains, getting the course ready again took plenty of effort. A heartfelt thank you goes to Ian and his team at Norm-Hudlin, together with the volunteers who spent time during the week preparing the course. From digging drainage trenches to laying pipes and tackling the worst of the waterlogged areas, your hard work ensured we could safely return to our beautiful trails. We truly appreciate everything you did to help make Saturday's parkrun possible. 💚

Despite the chilly conditions, we welcomed 5 first-time parkrunners to the family. We hope this was the first of many Saturday mornings with us! Congratulations also go to our 10 athletes who recorded Personal Bests – a fantastic achievement, especially on a cold winter morning.

There was plenty to celebrate with milestones too. A huge congratulations to Wilma Timm, who completed an impressive 150 parkruns, and to Cassandra Erasmus, who reached her official 50 parkrun milestone.

A particularly special moment for our parkrun family was celebrating Daniele (Dani) Mortimer's 15th birthday. Dani has quite literally grown up at parkrun, and it was wonderful to share her birthday with so many friends. Happy Birthday, Dani! We hope your year ahead is filled with many more smiles, adventures and Saturday mornings on the trails. 🎂🎉

We also celebrated some remarkable volunteer milestones. Amanda Mortimer reached an incredible 250 volunteer credits, while Kathy Finnegan earned her 25 Volunteer milestone. Behind every successful parkrun is a team of volunteers who freely give their time so that others can enjoy their Saturday mornings, and these milestones are a wonderful reminder of the spirit that makes parkrun so special.

This week's event was made possible by 30 amazing volunteers. Whether you welcomed participants, marshalled the course, scanned barcodes, timed finishers or helped with setup and close-down or helped during the week to dig trenches, thank you for making every participant feel welcome and safe. You are the heartbeat of Norm-Hudlin Trails parkrun.

Congratulations to our first finishers, Jemain Wilson and Claire Nagel, while Claire also achieved the highest age grading of the day with an outstanding 67.95%.

This week's statistics:

🏃 114 finishers
🌱 5 first-time parkrunners
⚡ 10 Personal Bests
🙌 30 wonderful volunteers
🏅 Representatives from 7 different clubs

Since our first event on 22 January 2022, 6,083 participants have completed an incredible 47,012 parkruns, covering 235,060 kilometres, recording 7,530 PBs, while 212 volunteers have collectively volunteered 4,992 times.

As we celebrated Women's Day weekend, we were reminded once again that parkrun is about so much more than running. It's about community, resilience, friendship and people coming together to lift one another up.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can't wait to welcome you back this Saturday for another wonderful morning on the trails. 💙💚
