Round 2 takes the Bulls from Parma to Limerick for the second leg of their trip north. They scored 47 against Zebre last weekend, while Munster led Glasgow 17-7 at half-time and lost 26-20. Neither result can be pasted straight onto Thomond Park, because the forwards who create the good ball are about to face very different opponents and, in Munster’s case, a different team sheet.

Luan Giliomee was the best Sharks story of the opening weekend. The Junior Bok and sevens talent scored twice from fullback, took Player of the Match and gave the Sharks a threat that started well before the ball reached the touchline. How the Sharks let a talent like this slip away is hard to understand, and Bulls supporters will surely be licking their lips. Leinster have the personnel to make this a far sterner examination, and they arrive in Durban after losing at Ellis Park.

Round 2 of the URC brings the Ospreys to Johannesburg for the second leg of their South African trip, eight days after their visit to Durban. The Lions beat Leinster 27-26 at Ellis Park in Round 1. The Ospreys lost 41-24 to the Sharks and still came away with a try bonus point. Those scores point towards 80 minutes of loose running, but we expect this match to turn on who controls the tackle area after the first break.

EDINBURGH AND THE STORMERS both opened their URC season with a bonus-point win, but Edinburgh let a 29-point lead slip in Belfast while the Stormers came from behind in Galway. Friday’s meeting at Hive Stadium puts those two second halves side by side, with Siya Kolisi starting for the Stormers for the first time in more than five years and Pierre Schoeman back for the hosts.
