The recent verdict in the legal dispute between Manchester City and the Premier League has been much discussed in football. This case centered around the Premier League's rules governing "Associated Party Transactions" (APTs), commercial deals between a club and entities linked to its owners.

Partial Victory for Manchester City: The tribunal found that certain aspects of the Premier League's APT rules were unlawful. This included limitations on shareholder loans and the requirement for clubs to provide "benchmark" figures for their commercial deals.

Premier League's Stance: Despite the partial victory for Manchester City, the Premier League has maintained that the tribunal "endorsed the overall objectives, framework, and decision-making of the APT system." They argue that the verdict upholds the importance of ensuring financial fair play and preventing clubs from gaining unfair advantages through inflated commercial deals.
Impact on Future Regulations: The outcome of this case is likely to influence the Premier League's future approach to regulating club finances. It may lead to revisions of the APT rules to ensure they comply with competition law while still maintaining the league's objectives of financial fair play.

No Direct Impact on Current Charges: It's important to note that this verdict is not directly related to the 115 charges of financial misconduct currently facing Manchester City. Those charges, which allege breaches of Premier League rules over a nine-year period, are a separate matter and will be addressed by an independent commission.

Overall, the verdict has been seen as a mixed result for both parties. While Manchester City has achieved some success in challenging the Premier League's rules, the league has also secured a degree of validation for its overall approach to financial regulation. The case has highlighted the complexities of balancing financial fair play with the commercial interests of football clubs.

Strides Football Club would like to congratulate the Phelindaba Local Football Association on its successful Ordinary Congress and the election of the new Executive Committee.

We trust that from this point on, it only gets better. We want to remind the Executive Committee that football and the association are mutually exclusive. These are not the same. Think more of Eskom and electricity, these are also mutually exclusive. However, we need a well-managed Eskom for readily available electricity service. Similarly, we need a well-managed PLFA for qualitative and smooth football development and promotion. People don't run football, but organizations do. Build PLFA, and PLFA will produce football both in terms of development and promotion.

Well done to the outgoing Ad Hoc Committee (Task Team). It could not have been easy, but ultimately, the mandate was carried out. The baton is now firmly handed over to the new Executive Committee. Well-wishes and God's strength to all of the EXCO's members.
