THE BROTHERS COMMUNITY KEEPS GROWING.

A few post-class moments from this week, and a little something new happening on Saturday mornings!

We’ve officially kicked off our Saturday morning running club. Because apparently, spending time trying to fold each other like laundry during the rest of the week, just wasn’t enough. 😂

It’s been great seeing some of our our members getting involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing where this new little adventure takes us.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone!

You win or you learn.

THEY FIND A COUNTER. FIND ANOTHER ANSWER.

Last week, we looked at a simple butterfly sweep that finishes in mount.

But what happens when your opponent steps out to strengthen their base and shuts down the sweep?

You adapt.

This week's Gi technique uses a shoulder crunch, hooks the leg they've stepped out with, and kicks the other leg out from underneath them — sending them over and finishing in mount again.

When they take away one option, look for the next.

TAKE THEM DOWN. TAKE THE POSITION.

A good takedown doesn't end when your opponent hits the mat.

This week's No-Gi technique starts from a body lock and finishes with control on the ground — a reminder that the takedown is only the beginning.

Get the takedown. Secure the position. Keep working.

Position before submission. Always.

A QUIETER WEEK ON THE MATS.

With the public holiday giving us a shorter week, we didn't get quite as much mat time as usual.

But Monday and Wednesday still brought some good training, good people, and a couple of post-class selfies.

And Wednesday's selfie was made a little more special with one of our coaches officially back on the mats after some time away.

Hopefully tomorrow makes up for the shorter week with a fun open mat and plenty of rounds.

Have a great weekend!

JIU-JITSU DOESN'T ALWAYS STAY ON THE MATS.

Sometimes it follows you home.

A few photos sent to us by one of our mums — big brother showing little brother a few moves on the trampoline.

Then there's this little guy, carrying a bundle of rope almost as big as he is because apparently the tug-of-war wasn't going to set itself up. 😂

And his brother? Well… let's just say things escalated quickly.

“I'M COMMITTING A CRIME!” 😂

The best part? They're learning, playing and finding ways to use what they learn without even thinking about it.

That's Jiu-Jitsu.

KEEP IT SIMPLE. GET TO MOUNT.

Sometimes the most effective techniques are the ones that get the job done without overcomplicating things.

This week's Gi technique is a simple butterfly sweep that finishes in mount — a great reminder that good fundamentals can create strong positions.

But remember, simple doesn't always mean easy!

And for a little background noise… that's just the wrestling crew heading home after their class next door. 😂

We’re excited to welcome Professor Johan de Goede — “Tjoekieflows” to Brothers in Grappling for a No-Gi seminar on Saturday, 7 November.
Johan began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2015 under Prof Jacques Portelli and earned his black belt under Prof Nicholas Gregoriades in December 2025. He’s also a seasoned competitor and an ADCC and AJP gold medalist.

Johan has generously offered to donate 100% of the seminar earnings towards the upgrading of our club mats.

Last week, we looked at the mounted arm triangle.

But what happens when the triangle just isn't there?

This week's No-Gi technique shows another option — using the position to take the back instead.

Good Jiu-Jitsu isn't about forcing one submission. It's about recognising the next opportunity when your first attack doesn't work.

One attack leads to the next.

GOOD ROUNDS. GOOD PEOPLE. GOOD WEEK.

Post-class selfies, hard rounds, a full Gi class, and apparently two brothers who were absolutely NOT interested in being part of the selfie.

Some training, some chaos, and a lot of time spent doing what we love.

Here's to another week at Brothers.

You win or you learn.

SOME GAMES HAVE MORE THAN ONE PURPOSE!

Bulldog Island has officially become a favourite on the mats.

Different ages, different sizes, different challenges — but the same game.

They're working on balance, base, movement, body awareness and problem-solving without even realising how much they're learning.

The kids might think they're just playing.

We know better. 😉
