In the heart of Kitwe district, a quiet revolution is taking place at Chimwemwe Urban Clinic. Behind its modest walls, a dedicated One Stop Centre (OSC) is transforming the way adolescents and young people between the age of 10 to 24 access healthcare – offering a safe, confidential, and youth-friendly health services that is breaking down decades of stigma and discriminative barriers in the country.
The One Stop Centre model is built on a simple yet powerful premise: young people should not have to navigate fragmented services or face judgment when seeking healthcare. Instead, they deserve a single, welcoming space where their physical, emotional, and social needs are addressed comprehensively.

The Centre is more than a health facility – it is a beacon of hope and a model for what is possible when health systems truly prioritise the needs of adolescents and young people.

As the centre continues to grow and evolve, its impact extends far beyond the individual young people it serves. Other healthcare facilities such as Kapata Urban clinic in Chipata, Eastern Province has already expressed strong desire to adapt and implement the model. Chimwemwe OSC provides a blueprint that can be replicated across Zambia and the wider region. The One Stop Centre at Chimwemwe Clinic stands as a testament to what can be achieved through vision, partnership, and an unwavering commitment to leaving no adolescent and young person behind.

LET US CREATE A FUTURE WHERE NO WOMAN OR GIRL’S LIFE IS LOST DUE TO AN UNSAFE ABORTION.

On this International Safe Abortion Day, ZAGO reaffirms that every woman or girl deserves compassionate, respectful, evidence-based healthcare and access to accurate information about sexual and reproductive health.
Unsafe abortion remains a preventable cause of maternal illness and death in our country. We call for stigma-free care, timely post-abortion services, and access to safe abortion services and modern contraception in accordance with our laws and established clinical guidelines. No one should be denied urgent, lifesaving care or treated with discrimination.
We also urge continued investment in comprehensive sexuality education, voluntary family planning, and support for health workers to provide quality care with dignity and confidentiality.
Together, let us protect health, uphold human rights, and work toward a future where no woman or girl is harmed or lost because of an unsafe abortion.
