Styrian ÖSBV athlete Mario Bodlos 🇦🇹 can look back on the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Championships in Sofia with every reason to draw a positive conclusion.

https://www.ebsa.tv/events-calendar/

Together with Jérôme Liedtke, he narrowly missed out on reaching the knockout stages of the team competition. Despite putting in strong performances, the pair suffered a defeat in the deciding frame of the crucial match for qualification. However, Mario then successfully reached the knockout stages in both the 6 Reds and Shootout competitions.

In the 6 Reds event, he secured second place in his group with two victories and went on to win his opening knockout match, finishing 17th overall. He achieved the same overall result in the final Shootout competition, where he also managed to progress through one knockout round.

Overall, these strong international performances should provide a valuable boost heading into the season finale of the Austrian Snooker League and, in turn, bring plenty of positive momentum into the championships at the beginning of next year.

Well done! Great performance, Mario! 👏

For internationally experienced ÖSBV athlete Jérôme Liedtke 🇦🇹, the overall assessment of the 2026 European Billiards and Snooker Association Championships in Sofia is likely to be mixed.

https://www.ebsa.tv/events-calendar/

Together with Mario Bodlos, he narrowly missed out on advancing to the knockout stage of the team competition after recording one victory and two defeats, with the decisive loss coming in a very close deciding frame. In the 6 Reds competition, the Lower Austrian unfortunately managed just one walkover victory, finishing third in his group and 39th overall.

Unfortunately, the final Shootout also ended too early, with Jérôme suffering another very narrow defeat in the opening round.

Nevertheless, the long-standing national top-10 player needs to take the positives from this international experience. The key now will be to build on the lessons learned in Sofia and turn them into strong performances and results in upcoming national and international competitions.

Well done and keep going, Jérôme! 🙌

Josef Wimmer 🇦🇹 can look back on his first European Billiards and Snooker Association Championship with a positive overall assessment. With one victory and a third-place finish in his group in the 6 Reds competition, earning him 39th place overall, as well as a highly committed performance in the team event alongside Emil Becker, he can take plenty of positives from the tournament. Although their strong performances in individual frames were unfortunately not rewarded with a match victory, the overall impression remains a positive one.

https://www.ebsa.tv/events-calendar/

International victories at the highest European amateur level are always an indication of significant potential, while close defeats can also provide valuable momentum for the upcoming national events. The experience gained at this European Championship provides a solid foundation for Josef’s future performances on the international stage and underlines his potential for further success.

Good performance, Josef! 🙌

24/09/2026

Emil Becker’s 🇦🇹 58th-place finish in the European Billiards and Snooker Association 6 Reds event and 19th place alongside Josef Wimmer in the team competition definitely do not reflect the potential of the debutant, who put in a more than convincing performance in his first international appearance for the ÖSBV.

https://www.ebsa.tv/events-calendar/

It was particularly in the 6 Reds event that Emil showed just how much potential he has for the international stage, with two very close defeats against opponents who, on paper, were considered the favourites to progress further in the event. In addition, he managed to win at least one frame in every match he played, both in the individual competition and in the team event.

In the end, despite what may appear to be a disappointing result on paper, his performances can nevertheless be regarded as a solid sporting success, highlighting plenty of potential for future international appearances.

Well done, Emil! 👍
