WhatsApp “GhostPairing” is a scam that tricks you into linking a scammer’s device to your WhatsApp account. They can then read synced chats and send messages as you.
It usually works like this:
1. A message arrives, possibly from a compromised friend’s account: “Hey, I found your photo!”
2. The link opens a fake page asking you to “verify” your identity.
3. It tells you to enter a pairing code into WhatsApp.
4. That action authorizes the scammer’s device to access your account.
Simply opening the link doesn’t complete this attack—the trick relies on getting you to approve device linking.
To check your account, open WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices and log out of anything you don’t recognize. Only approve linking when you’re connecting your own device. Two-step verification is useful, but it doesn’t necessarily prevent this particular scam.
