Huge respect to everyone who stepped onto the mats Tuesday night. Starting something new takes courage, and you’ve already conquered the hardest part… showing up.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an in-house black belt.

Riley’s been here so long it’s easy to forget how unlikely this all was. Picture it: a basketball court at the YMCA, us rolling the mats out for the hundredth time, no gym, no certainty, not much of anything. And in walks a genuinely skilled, incredible training partner who also happens to be a delight of a human being. Odds of that? Roughly zero. But here we are.

He’s been the backbone of this club for as long as there’s been a club to have a backbone. Coaching. Comp prep. Helping build the gym from scratch. Mopping the mats, mopping the mats, mopping the mats again. Nothing has ever been too big an ask.

If you’ve had the pleasure of training with Riley, you already knew this was coming. This man’s been a black belt for a while now, we just needed Grant to make it official.
