Congratulations to Marg Nunn and Marita Rieniets for their acknowledgment of service to officiating in athletics

Marg Nunn received her 50 year service acknowledgment starting her officiating journey in 1976! Marg is a regular face around athletics in Ballarat being an official across AVSL and local championships events. She has covered just about every area of athletics in her 50 years of service

Marita Rieniets received her 25 years service to athletics moving into an officiating role after she retired from competing. Still officiating at local, state and national level you will often see her in various roles around an athletics facility.

Well done to both of these officials on their achievements πŸ‘

Congratulations to everyone who competed in XCR Round 4 at Cruden Farm on Saturday.

As the annual Heritage Round, the event celebrated the history of Victorian athletics while providing athletes with a challenging cross-country course through the beautiful Cruden Farm grounds. Featuring a mix of grassland, rolling terrain and varied surfaces, the event tested endurance and race tactics.

Katherine Dowie makes history at Lake Wendouree ⏱

Eureka athlete Katherine Dowie has become the first female in history in run under 20 minutes at the famous Ballarat Lap of the Lake course. After recently being selected in the Victorian team for the Australian Half-Marathon Championships, Dowie took on the 6km course around Lake Wendouree finishing in a time of 19:46!

This was personal best and faster than her previous record of 20:08 minutes in 2024. Dowie becomes the first female under 20 minutes in almost 50 years of running the event and claims the title for the 3rd straight year

Dowie finished ahead of Ballarat YCW duo Paige Tuddenham (21:07) and Ava MacGowan (21:54) with Tuddenham also moving to inside the top 10 of all time at only 14 years of age!

In the men’s race, Old Scotch member Ben Beischer came up to Ballarat to take the win in a time of 17:41 ahead of Wendouree athlete Jacob Cheesman (17:46) and Ben Ludbrook (17:51) with all three entering the top 25 of all time
