Our Founding Fathers
Members of the Chelsea Golf Club 1934

The original group of members of PRGC - had their beginnings as members of the Chelsea Golf Club (a very basic layout of 9 holes was opened on 9th March 1924, it was located near the south east corner of Wells Road and Edithvale Roads near where McDonalds Fast Food store is today). In 1925 Mr Alf Priestley owned 174 acres of prime pasture where he and Mr Bob Cross operated a cattle business. Mr Frank Shillinglaw, a member of the Chelsea Golf Club explained the game of golf and its attractions to Mr Priestley hoping he might become a member and almost overnight the enterprising Mr Priestley decided to lay down a golf course of his own and what is now Patterson River Golf Club was born. ⛳️
