The Bears are a family friendly Aussie Rules club with Junior Boys and Girls, and Senior Men’s and Women’s teams.

Home of the Burnside Heights Football Club and 'Burnie the Bear'! The Bears were formed in 2011 and competed in the EDFL for the first time in 2012 at junior level. In 2014 the Bears fielded Senior Men’s teams for the first time and since 2018 we have fielded a Senior Women’s team also. The Bears are a true community based club with a strong emphasis on junior development. Some of the Bears teams and players accomplishments over the past few years include;

- Under 14 Premiership 2015
- Under 10 Premiership 2015
- Under 13 Premiership 2017
- Under 13 Premiership 2018
- Under 16 Premiership 2021

In 2018 our Senior Women’s team were Premier Division Grand Finalists and in 2019 our Senior Men’s team played off in the Division 2 Preliminary Final. In 2021 the Bears will be celebrating our 10th Year.

CADE ANSET IS LOCKED IN FOR 2027 & 2028! 💪

The Bears are thrilled to have Cade Anset recommit for the next two seasons following a breakout year that saw him finish in the Top 5 of our Best & Fairest!

A Bear junior, Cade is a great example of the pathway we’re building, developing our own talent and creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive at senior level.

With his continued growth and commitment to the standards we’re setting, we’re excited to see Cade take his game to another level as we Build the Bears! 🐻💙🧡

MATT MEOCEVIC IS LOCKED IN! RE-SIGNS UNTIL THE END OF 2028! 🙌

The Bears are excited to secure Matt Meocevic for another two seasons!

In his first year at the club, 'Marty' played a key role in our Under 18.5' Men's charge to the Division 1 finals before making his senior debut. Across six senior games, he made his mark with some memorable goals and showed plenty of promise.

Having fitted seamlessly into the group, Marty is an exciting young talent with plenty more to offer as he continues to develop in our senior program.

A big first season. An exciting future. Marty is all Bear! 🐻🧡💙

25/10/2026

JACOB ZAHRA RE-SIGNS UNTIL THE END OF 2028! 💪

The Bears are thrilled to have Jacob Zahra committed to the club until the end of 2028!

Jacob made an exciting start to the season before injury brought his campaign to a premature end. His return is something we’re eagerly looking forward to, with the hard-running, versatile on-baller ready to make his mark again in the navy and orange.

With plenty of football ahead of him, we’re excited to support Jacob’s continued development and see him back doing what he does best.

The best is still ahead for Jacob as we continue to Build the Bears! 🐻🧡💙
