RUGBY LEAGUE SAMOA WELCOMES HISTORIC PACIFIC STRATEGY INVESTMENT

Apia, Samoa — 8 July 2026

Rugby League Samoa proudly welcomes the signing of the historic Rugby League Pacific Strategy, a landmark partnership with Pacific nations and the Australian Government aimed at strengthening grassroots rugby league and creating lasting opportunities across the region.

Supported by a AUD $250 million regional investment, the strategy will focus on developing community facilities, building stronger pathways through Future Fetu and Toa Samoa Academies, and delivering health, education, and leadership programs for Pacific communities.

Representing Samoa, Prime Minister Hon. La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polāta’ivao Fosi Schmidt signed the agreement, highlighting the importance of investing in young people, families, villages, and future generations.

Rugby League Samoa President described the agreement as a defining moment for the game:

“This commitment will provide our youth with quality coaching, improved facilities, and clear pathways while using rugby league to strengthen communities and inspire the next generation.”

Rugby League Samoa will work alongside key partners including the Australian Rugby League Commission, NRL, and DFAT to deliver the program and ensure long-term benefits for Samoa.
