Over the weekend we were honoured with an invitation to train at the dojo of Masanari Kikugawa Sensei.
Kikugawa Sensei is not only a 10th Dan and the Chairperson of the OGKK, but also an Okinawa Prefecture Intangible Cultural asset holder for Karate do.
At 80 years of age, Kikugawa sensei is strong, healthy and still training. He spoke with us about the importance of balance in your life and training with the goal of longevity and health. A true honour to train at his dojo and to meet his welcoming and friendly students.
We also continued our training with Masuda sensei working on our hojo undo, and also visiting the OGKK Masuda Karate Dojo to help with the kids classes again.
I can’t express how grateful we feel to have this opportunity to learn so much in the birthplace of karate.
To top it all off and to end our Okinawan adventure (for now) Masuda Sensei held a small party at the dojo with us, his dojo members and some of the local community.
As sad as we are to have left Okinawa, we’ll be back very soon.
