Many educators are beginning to recognise that young people today are not lacking information.
They are lacking meaningful experiences that help shape who they are becoming.
Historically, children grew through challenge, responsibility, mentorship and belonging. These were not abstract ideas. They were lived experiences that helped young people discover confidence, direction and character.
Jiu-Jitsu quietly offers this again.
On the mats, kids learn how to stay calm under pressure. They learn how to lose and try again. They learn how to support others while becoming stronger themselves. They discover that effort changes outcomes and that confidence is something you build, not something you are given.
This is why what happens in martial arts training reaches far beyond technique.
It helps young people grow into capable, grounded and respectful humans.
If you would like your child to experience this kind of environment, we’d love to welcome you at Point Break BJJ. Reach out anytime to arrange a trial class.

We’re proud to accept the NSW Active Kids Voucher at Point Break BJJ.
Childhood is a time when strength is still forming — not just in the body, but in character, confidence, and voice. On the mats, children learn how to meet challenge, support their training partners, and grow through effort rather than comparison.
Jiu-Jitsu gives young people a place to test themselves in a safe and supportive environment, and to discover what they are capable of becoming.
The Active Kids Voucher helps make this journey more accessible for local families.
If your child has been thinking about starting, we’d love to welcome them onto the mats.
Free trial available.
Resilience – discipline – fun

🌊 When Strength Meets Respect
This morning, a parent stopped me to say thank you.
Their child had been bullied for months at the bus stop — the school had stepped in, but nothing changed. Until one day, our son spoke up. He stood between the bullies and the other child, and everything shifted.
Moments like this remind me what Jiu-Jitsu really teaches.
It’s not just self-defence — it’s self-respect.
Our boy hadn’t even told us about this. Showing up with integrity is just who he is. He’s 12 years old and has always been known as the kind kid — but through the practice of Jiu-Jitsu, he’s also learned how to be the strong kid.
Through this art, our students learn what it feels like to be in their power, and also what it feels like to be overpowered. They learn to move with humility, awareness, and empathy — because they know what it means to yield and what it means to stand strong.
At Point Break, we teach Jiu-Jitsu as a craft for the more vulnerable — a way to develop courage, integrity, and the quiet confidence it takes to stand up for yourself and for others.
And when we grow a community of people who live with this kind of self-respect, it creates greater safety for everyone. Because true strength protects, includes, and uplifts.
I’m so proud to see our students embody that strength beyond the mats.
That’s the heart of true martial arts. 💙
