At Sansára Dojos, we don’t expect our juniors to stand their ground and fight a grown adult. That’s not what self-defence is about.
It’s about being aware, recognising danger, and knowing what to do when something doesn’t feel right.
In this video, our junior student Indie demonstrates some important lessons we teach our youngsters.
✅ 𝗕𝗘 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗘: Pay attention to the people around you. If someone approaches you, makes you uncomfortable, or tries to lure you away with promises of sweets or gifts, trust your instincts.
✅ 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘: Don’t be afraid to say no, move away, and keep yourself out of reach.
✅ 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗗𝗢: Simple evasive skills can help create an opportunity to escape. Call out for help, get to a safe distance, and get away.
✅ 𝗣𝗔𝗬 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: This is one of the most important lessons of all. Notice the details. What was the person wearing? What colour was their hair? Did they have a beard, glasses or a hat? What did they look like?
If something happens, these details can help parents, teachers and police identify the person.
Our goal isn’t to teach children to fight adults. It’s to help them become aware, confident, alert and smart enough to recognise danger and take action to protect themselves.
Because sometimes, the most important self-defence skill isn’t knowing how to fight. It’s knowing when to get away, how to get help, and what to remember afterwards.
