LIFE MEMBERSHIP • GREG McDONALD
The Penguin Football Club is proud to recognise Greg McDonald as the latest inductee as a Life Member of our club.
Greg’s involvement with Penguin stretches across decades, beginning after he joined the club from Cooee, where he played a mixture of Seniors and Reserves football. He was a member of Penguin’s 1978 Reserves premiership team, beginning a long-standing connection with the club that continues to this day.
Greg also played an important role in supporting local football away from the senior teams, assisting Craig Dunham and Don Cooper with coaching the Penguin High School football teams. In the early 2000’s, Greg joined the Penguin Football Club committee, later taking on the role of Recruiting Manager in 2005 and also serving as Treasurer during his time on the committee.
Since then, Greg’s contribution to the club has extended well beyond any single role. He has been a long-time supporter of the club, with a particular passion for the Senior Women’s program, while also regularly volunteering his time wherever it has been needed.
For many years, Greg has organised the club’s gate roster and worked his fair share of shifts, coordinated major club raffles and sold a truckload of tickets along the way, assisted with sponsorship, both as a sponsor himself and by helping secure sponsorship for the club, helped clean the grandstands and surrounding areas after home games, assisted with catering and preparation of food for events, including Targa Rally days, and taken on countless other jobs around the club, often simply because someone needed to do them.
Greg’s willingness to help, no matter how big or small the task, has become a defining part of his contribution to Penguin Football. His commitment was recognised when he was named Penguin Football Club’s Best Clubman in 2022, and his continued service since then has only added to an already outstanding contribution.
From pulling on the boots, to committee work, coaching, recruiting, sponsorship, raffles, gate duties, cleaning and everything in between, Greg has consistently put his hand up and helped make the Penguin Football Club a better place.
Congratulations Greg, and thank you for everything you have given to the club. A very deserving Life Member of the Penguin Football Club.
