🚨 WESTERN SYDNEY MARATHON UPDATE 🚨

The Office of Sport recently met with key partners to discuss future opportunities to expand the event and to consider future dates that complement the State/National running calendar but sadly were unable to find a solution for the 2025 event so it will not be running this year.

We're disappointed about this outcome like the rest of the marathon community and will investigate partnership opportunities as part of the vision to grow Western Sydney Marathon as a key event in Penrith for the future.

We understand hopeful participants will also be disappointed but don’t let this deter you from getting out there and running 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏿

Today is International Day of People with Disability – a United Nations observed day held on 3 December each year. Here at the Office of Sport, we are proud to celebrate and champion sport for people with disability all year round. This year, our Sport and Recreation Centres around the state have incorporated adaptive sports into their regular programming – from Wheelchair Basketball to Goalball, Blind AFL and more, our staff have loved learning to play these fun sports and introducing them to all the different groups who attend camps and programs at the Centres.

Congratulations to the 1234 people who ran at the Western Sydney Marathon at Sydney International Regatta Centre on Sunday. From our littlest participants in the 2km Youth Dash, through to weekend warriors and seasoned competitors taking on the 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon distances, it was a fantastic day out for all involved. A special shoutout to our oldest marathon competitor, 74-year-old Ray James, who has run in every Western Sydney Marathon to date and is creeping up on 400 marathons in total!

Runners - are you ready? A new date for the Western Sydney Marathon has just been announced! Sunday 8 October is the date to put in your calendars, with the flat track and spring sunshine the perfect combination for setting a new PB. The 2023 event will also feature an exciting new course that takes runners around Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
