⚒️⚒️Out of sight and mined. - An irreplaceable heritage - if not valued - will be lost.
Politicians don't want to hear about it, but Alcoa’s bauxite mining operations and proposed major expansions across the Darling Range are surely now widely recognised by a large majority of the community as totally unsustainable.
But is the wider community aware of South32's (Worsley Alumina) expansion plans? - plans that will soon be adjusted into Alcoa plans if Alcoa succeeeds in its intended purchase of South32’s bauxite and aluminium assets. South32's expanding contribution to forest and woodlands destruction shouldn't be ignored.
Google Earth image (looking SW) highlights South32 indicative future mine plans (orange). South32 plans to eventually mine northward from existing Boddington area operations, cross Albany Hwy and continue for over 50km to north of Brookton Hwy.
Photos are from known bushwalks in South32 mine plan areas, mostly areas of stunning, irreplaceable wandoo woodlands and laterite breakaway landscapes.
Meanwhile Alcoa also hopes to eventually mine the area between Mt Cooke and the South 32 areas to the east. Bibbulmun Track walkers will then 'enjoy' near-360deg views of surrounding mined landscape from several sections of the track.
The legacy of such continuing mine expansions? - Remaining ‘protected’ areas will be left as mostly isolated islands of quality mature forest environment, surrounded by an extensive mosaic of failed forest- landscape "rehabilitation": Huge losses of conservation/environmental quality (including critical habitat), drinking water resources, social surroundings, local tourism etc.
So much for 'duty of care' of natural heritage for future generations.

Karnet area: then and now.
Once-was-a-walk (14.5km circuit in red) - a traverse of Karnet Rock and across 3 small forested valleys near Serpentine Dam.
But this walk is no longer on WalKGPS. Water catchment protection policy has long banned walkers from here while allowing bauxite strip-mining to expand to within 250m of the drinking water reservoirs.
Many other walk areas are threatened by bauxite mining, not just the Bibbulmun Track.
