Strongwoman Australia This page has been created to support women interested in training or competing in Strongwoman.

This page has been created for Australian women interested in training for or competing in Strongman/Strongwoman events. Although Strongman is originally a male dominated sport some women are discovering the fun in lifting heavy things and testing their strength with traditional Strongman equipment such as the yoke, log and Atlas stones. Unfortunately many Australian Strongwoman competitions are cancelled due to lack of numbers, our aim is to not only connect with other Strongwoman athletes across the country but to find a bunch more women who are kickass strong but don't know it yet! We also have a Strongwoman Australia group on Facebook, look us up here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/598175553615490/

The Strongman Australia group is a great resource and will let you connect with the wider community, you can find them here:

Today, SWA are celebrating the women and girls who aren't afraid to take up space, move heavy weights, and redefine what "strength" looks like. 🏋️‍♀️💥

Across all levels of strength sports in Australia, women and girls are shattering glass ceilings and personal records—every single day. Strength sports aren't just about the numbers on the bar; they’re about the grit, the community, and the empowerment that comes from discovering exactly what your body is capable of.

Why We Lift?

Breaking Stereotypes: Challenging the myth of "bulk" and embracing the power of muscle.
Building Resilience: Learning that failure is just a setup for a heavier attempt.
Community: Lifting each other up (literally and figuratively).

To the coaches, the competitors, and the women picking up their first dumbbell today: Keep pushing. Keep supporting. Keep leading.

Happy International Women's Day from SWA! 💜💪

🌟 February athelete of the month is Kirsten 🌟

Let's get to know more about Kirsten 👇

What first drew you to strongwoman, and at what point did you realise you were hooked?

I was training for my first powerlifting comp and watching all these people in the gym play with some cool looking things like the stones. As I was watching people lift those heavy rocks made me want to try and after my first stone session I knew I was sold on strongman.

What does your training look like on a day when motivation is low — and how do you push through?

Pulling back on the weights and focusing on the technique so I don’t go down the rabbit hole of “it’s too hard I give up”. Having some amazing people at the gym and my coach to talk to help a lot.

What’s your pre-comp hype ritual or superstition? Be honest — lucky socks, power playlist, dramatic pep talk?

Finding all the purple things. Whether it’s redoing my hair before getting it braided or making sure my gear is as purple as I can find. Being surrounded by my favourite colour helps me focus and ground myself. Even my energy drinks and pre workout is purple💜

When you’re not lifting heavy things, what would surprise people most about you?

I am huge reader and a sucker for “those” types of books😅 half the time I’m training I probably have an audiobook playing instead of music!

Thank you Kirsten 💟

🎗️March is Endometriosis Awareness month 🎗️

Endometriosis isn’t just about painful periods, it often involves:

👉Pelvic pain
👉Muscle guarding and tightness
👉Fatigue
👉Lower back and hip discomfort
👉Reduced core and pelvic floor coordination

Unfortunately, there is limited evidence to provide specific guidelines surrounding exercise and endometriosis. Evidence suggests that physical exercise has beneficial effects on relaxing the muscles of patients, which in turn can help to break their pain cycle.

What May Be Helpful

🔹 Strength training – with a focus on correcting muscle imbalances
🔹 Pilates & yoga – useful for releasing tension and improving mobility
🔹 Gentle stretching – especially glutes, hip flexors, lower back and pelvic region
🔹 Walking & incidental movement – everyday activity counts

The key is choosing movement that feels supportive — not punishing.

👩‍⚕️Speaking to a endometriosis aware clinician - Pelvic physios are a great place to start.
