It is with incredibly sad hearts that we share the passing of long time table tennis community member, John β€œJack” Dombrose. πŸ•ŠοΈ

John passed away on Wednesday morning after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Many members will remember John through tournaments, pennants, social play and country events over many years. He last competed in a State Tournament in 2022 and represented our state at the Australian National Veterans Championships in Adelaide in 2019.

TTWA President Sean Shwe said, β€œThis is incredibly sad news. I have known John for more than 10 years and had the pleasure of playing pennants as teammates over many seasons. I also have fond memories of social sessions where John and I would enjoy a hit while his grandson played alongside my older son. John was a genuinely kind gentleman who loved life, loved sport and treasured the friendships that came with our table tennis community. He had a great sense of humour, always had a smile on his face, and was simply a pleasure to be around. Whether it was a pennant match, a tournament or a casual hit, John always made people feel welcome. He was one of those people who quietly made our community better just by being part of it. I feel fortunate to have known him and to have shared many good times together over the years. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and Mary, and all of John’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

John’s contribution to our table tennis community extended far beyond the matches he played. He was a familiar face, a valued friend to many, and someone who genuinely enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships that make our sport so special. His presence will be missed by many across the Western Australian table tennis community.

On behalf of Table Tennis Western Australia, we extend our deepest condolences to Mike and Mary, John’s family, friends and loved ones.

Rest in peace, John. 🀍

Forever remembered. Forever part of our table tennis family. πŸ“β€οΈ

Special shoutout again to Tom Atkinson, through his lens, he has captured and preserved so many special moments in our table tennis community. Thank you Tom for the incredible contribution you continue to make to our sport β€οΈπŸ“ΈπŸ“

18/05/2026

We would like to nominate Tom Atkinson to be featured for his incredible volunteer contribution to table tennis in Western Australia.

For many years, Tom has been the quiet person behind so many of TTWA’s best memories and moments.

As TTWA’s resident photographer, he has captured far more than matches … he has captured emotions, friendships, milestones, and the spirit of our community.

From athletes playing their first event to athletes standing on podiums at international level events held in WA, Tom’s work has helped bring TTWA’s people and stories to life.

Volunteer contributions like this often happen quietly behind the scenes, but they leave a lasting impact on an entire sporting community.

We also received very positive feedback from participating schools, which is encouraging as we continue growing school table tennis pathways in Western Australia.

A sincere thank you as well to the PE teachers and school staff for supporting their students, coordinating teams, arranging transport, and helping make the event possible. School sport only grows when passionate educators continue creating opportunities for students to participate, compete, and represent their schools with pride.
