Thunderdog Tornado

Team Thunderdog Tornado boasts a new-look lineup of well-known Norwest gladiators.

Descending upon the ‘Tsunami: Filling the Void” competition arena on Saturday, in the Open racing Division 1 category, are Ivy, Bullet, Chevy, Sprocket and Magic. Joining them on their crusade is newcomer Alfie, who is looking for some more valuable flyball competition experience.

Quality racing against the team from the ACT, Canberra X-traordinary, fellow Sydney-based team Star Power – SthX, and Norwest club-mates Thunderdog Stormchasers, will no doubt provide exciting moments within a close competition.

Norwest Flyball Club thank South Coast Tsunami Flyball for hosting their ‘no-frills’ race meeting on Saturday. Thunderdog Tornado look forward to some cracking competition in Open Division 1.

Thunderdog Stormchasers

Whilst the team line-up may look slightly different, the heart within the Stormchasers will be on full display at Albion Park on Saturday, for the ‘Tsunami: Filling the Void’ race meeting.

Impeccably led by Norwest stalwart Link and strengthened by Fuse, Swift, Zeke and Replay, the Thunderdog Stormchasers will dig-in to chase down the time handicap every time they step into the ring. Joining them on their mission is newcomer Kahlua, who is looking for some more valuable flyball competition experience.

Catch-up racing against the team from the ACT, Canberra X-traordinary, fellow Sydney-based team Star Power – SthX, and Norwest stable-mates Thunderdog Tornado, will no doubt provide exciting moments within a close competition.

Thunderdogs Team 2

Just to confirm the racing depth at the Norwest Flyball Club (and the team selection nightmare every time there is an upcoming competition to enter), Thunderdogs 2 also take their place in Division 1 of the ‘Tsunami: Filling the Void’ race meeting, this Saturday.

Not to be outdone in the loud and proud department, up-and-coming talent Jazzy will take her place alongside teamies R2D2, Sandstorm, Zali, and Ripley. Be prepared as they serenade the southern suburb of Albion Park with excitement and anticipation of some red-hot racing, against host-team ‘Tsunami Wave Riders’, ‘Unleashed Drive’ from Sydney and their friends / not friends / friends again from Norwest, ‘Thunderdogs 1’.

Thunderdogs Team 1

It feels like an age since we’ve hit the lanes and disturbed the early morning peace and quiet.

But never fear, Norwest are coming to the ‘Tsunami: Filling the Void’ race meeting!

Team Thunderdogs 1 leads the Norwest canine symphony, showcasing their vocal talents as they line up in Division 1 this Saturday at Albion Park.

Blaze, Zen, Spice, Aoife and Joey will briefly pause their choral entertainment as they compete against home-team heroes ‘Tsunami Wave Riders’, neighbouring Sydney team ‘Unleashed Drive’, and their Castle Hill club-mates, ‘Thunderdogs 2’.

Have you ever wondered how a dog becomes so unbothered by the noise and action of the flyball ring? How they gain exposure to a competition environment BEFORE they get to race in a team?

That’s what flyballers call ‘Training-in-the-Ring’ or ‘Lunch-Time-Training’, and it happens at many competitive race meetings during organised breaks in racing.

This Saturday, at Albion Park at the ‘Tsunami: Filling the Void’ race meeting, 7 super-special beginner Thunderdogs will spend some individually planned time with club instructors, practising the skills of flyball in a real flyball ring environment.

Apprentice Thunderdogs Penny, Charge, Ninja, Jack, Boss, Bronte and Sega (and their energetic handlers) will undertake the different components of the sport they have been working on in their more familiar home-ground training sessions.

Depending on their age and progress, they may practice:
• Distraction focus work and tug-drive;
• Flat recalls or recalls over jumps;
• Box-turn work (with or without a ball);
• ‘Turn & Burns’: box-turn, ball retrieval and completion of a return run over jumps; and
• Full Run: release from run-back area over jumps to the box, box turn with ball retrieval and return run over jumps to their handler.

These opportunities are so important in the development of solid, technically skilled beginner flyball dogs.
