Townsville Golf Club Named National Winner! 🏆

We are thrilled to announce that Townsville Golf Club has won the Women & Girls in Golf Award at the 2026 Golf Australia National Awards of Excellence!

This award recognizes golf clubs across Australia that are setting new benchmarks for innovation, participation, and leadership.

For us, it’s a celebration of our women’s introductory pathway, from total beginner "Come 'n' Try" sessions all the way through to full club membership.

A massive thank you to our volunteer mentors, coaching staff, and every participant who has made our signature i-GiGL (Intermediate Get Into Golf Ladies) program such a welcoming success.

As our Club President, Simon Ormes, said:

"The numbers are encouraging, but what matters most is what they represent: more women enjoying the game, finding playing partners, and gaining the confidence to keep coming back."

Thank you to Golf Australia for this incredible honor, and to our members for making Townsville Golf Club a place where everyone belongs!

Developing "Good Hands"

It's quite common to see players get within good range off the drive, only to chunk their approach within 50 metres.

Club selection within this range means nothing without muscle memory. Whether it's from 50 metres or 5, taking the time to get familiar will do wonders for getting you on the dancefloor in less time.

While you truly can't replicate the feel of the lie from being out on the course, becoming familiar with the weight required for each shot will add confidence when navigating through rough and sand on the course.

The Swing Cage – TGC is here, delivering smarter training, more competitive play, and fun options for all levels and ages. From detailed personalised analysis, to the simple ‘grip it and rip it’ , practice like a pro, or hit the games arcade.

🏌️‍♂️ HOLE IN ONE AT TGC! ⛳️

A big congratulations to John McLellan, who joined the Hole in One club on Sunday, 13 September!

John aced Hole 16 from 139 metres, finding the bottom of the cup with an 8 iron.

An outstanding achievement and a very special moment on the course.

Congratulations John — we hope you enjoyed celebrating this one!

Course changes are on their way at Townsville Golf Club.

Stage Two of our course repair works have commenced, ahead of schedule, which is great news as we continue to progress the important recovery works across the course.

Works have now commenced on the green compounds on Holes 12, 13 and 14.
The project will deliver important improvements to the golf course, including drainage and resilience works, to help reduce the impacts of future severe weather events.

Temporary Course Changes:
To allow these works to commence while maintaining 18-hole play, further temporary course arrangements will be in place.

⛳ Holes 12 & 13 will be closed to allow heavy machinery to safely operate in this area without risk to players.
⛳ Hole 14 will have a temporary green in play.
⛳ New temporary greens are expected to remain in play until the completion of the project.
⛳ White and green tees will be used for competition play during this period.

Due to these temporary conditions, we will move to one-tee starts for the majority of the week. Please keep an eye on the timesheets for any changes and speak with the Golf Shop team if you require further information.

Temporary course information will also be available at the Golf Shop counter.
We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as these important repair works continue. These changes are a necessary part of the process as we work towards improving the course and building greater resilience for the future.

Thank you again for your patience throughout this repair period.

Good golfing!

These works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Today is a reminder that a simple “R U OK?” can mean more than you realise.

You don’t need to have all the answers or know exactly what to say. Sometimes, simply checking in, listening and letting someone know you’re there is enough.

Whether it’s a friend, teammate, workmate, family member or someone you haven’t spoken to in a while — take a moment today to ask:

R U OK?

💬 Ask
👂 Listen

🤝 Follow up

And remember, looking out for each other isn’t just for one day. Keep the conversation going all year round.

A conversation could change a life.

Ditching "Block Practice" for "Random Practice"

Hitting 20 7-irons in a row (block practice) makes you feel like a pro on the range, but it doesn't prepare you for the course.

Once you are warmed up, switch to random practice. Hit a driver, then an 8-iron, then a wedge.

This isn't new. A lot of vets will "play a round" in their head (for example, hole 1 is a par 4: hit a driver, then a 7-iron, then a chip).

While it's awesome to visualize a course, the Swing Cage gives you actual access to a library of local and international courses.

This simulates the real pressure and constant adjustments required on the course.
