đź’™ Out of the Shadows Walk | Grow Kids Collective

The past few months have felt particularly heavy. In our own lives, in the lives of families around us, and across our community, we’ve seen just how quickly life can become incredibly hard. We’ve also felt the heartbreak that comes when a community loses a young life. Right now, the message that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone feels particularly close to our hearts.

It’s made taking part in Lifeline’s Out of the Shadows Walk feel particularly important to us this year.

Every 24 seconds, someone in Australia reaches out to Lifeline for crisis support.

And just $39 can provide one life-saving connection — one opportunity for someone in their darkest moment to have another person there to listen.

So we’re walking for World Su***de Prevention Day (September 10) 9kms for the 9 Australians lost to su***de every day. 💙

And we’d love you to be part of the Grow Kids Collective team.

You don’t need to be in the same place or even walk at the same time. You can complete your walk wherever and whenever works for you — with your family, with friends, along the beach, around your neighbourhood, or bit by bit.

You can join our team, sponsor us, or simply share our page.

If we can raise enough for even one more call to be answered when someone needs it most, that matters.

Here’s you chance to have your say.

The Australian Government is currently consulting on major changes to how NDIS plans are made.

The Australian Autism Alliance is inviting you to complete this short survey so your feedback will help us tell the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and NDIA:
• What is working
• What concerns the community
• What needs to change
• What must be protected

To learn more, take the survey and ensure Autistic voices, family/carer experiences and the broader community are heard click here: https://australianautismalliance.org.au/ndis-framework-rules/

Sharing this post with care as many families absorb the distressing events in Bondi.

It offers gentle, practical guidance for supporting children during times of frightening news, while also reminding parents to tend to their own wellbeing.

If tonight feels a little heavier at home, you’re not alone. Calm presence, connection, and familiar routines can make a real difference.

Holding all those affected in our thoughts. 🤍

💩 Constipation affects 1 in 6 kids — and it’s often missed because parents think “they go every day.”

It’s not just about frequency. Hard, painful, or incomplete poos can mean your child’s bowel isn’t working as smoothly as it should.

The good news? It’s common, not your fault, and treatable.

🌱 I’ve put together a free Constipation SOS Parent Guide — a simple checklist to help you spot the signs and support your child with confidence.

This has been very much the vibe we are hearing from families this week. Lots of frazzled little nervous systems. Take some time to take some pressure off and be kind to yourselves. Connection over correction is the key to getting through this especially for our kindy kids in this last few weeks of term.

đź’› R U OK? Day đź’›

Today is a powerful reminder to check in with the people around us. A simple “Are you OK?” can open the door to conversations that might change — or even save — a life.

👉 You don’t need to have all the answers.
👉 You don’t need to fix everything.
👉 You just need to listen, with care and without judgment.

Take a moment today to pause, connect, and ask the people in your world how they’re really going. 💬

But what happens tomorrow? Thursday 11 September is R U OK?Day — but life happens every day. Whether it’s a friend, family member, partner, or colleague, the people around us go through ups and downs all year round.

💬 Research shows that when we’re regularly asked “Are you OK?”, we feel more supported and connected. And the truth is — most of us already check in with others more than we realise.

It’s normal to feel hesitant about starting a deeper conversation, but here’s the good news: 9 in 10 Australians feel grateful and cared for when someone genuinely asks if they’re OK.

So don’t wait for one day a year. Be brave, be kind, and check in — because a conversation could change a life.

✨ Need tips? Visit ruok.org.au for free resources to help you start the conversation.

Because every conversation matters. đź’›
