An Important Update from Al’s Skate Co

This is a post we hoped we would never have to write.

After a lot of reflection and doing everything we possibly could to keep things going, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Al’s Skate Co.

Running this business has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. What started as a simple idea became something far bigger: a place where people, young and older, built confidence, friendships were formed, and our community came together through skateboarding.

Over the years we have had the privilege of seeing thousands of kids, families and skaters walk through our doors, and attend our events. Watching people land their first trick, overcome fears, and find a place where they belong has meant everything to us.

We have been overwhelmed by the support from our community. Families, local schools, skaters, volunteers and everyone who has supported us along the way.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the financial reality of surviving Covid, running the indoor skate park and ever increasing costs has made it impossible for us to continue, in any capacity.

We need to make this decision for the future of our family.

This decision has not been easy, and it comes with a lot of sadness. Al’s Skate Co has been more than a business to us — it has been our passion and a huge part of our lives.

We want to thank all the staff who have been apart of Als Skate Co over the last 7 years. The impact you have had on the students and families who have walked through our doors has created life long memories.

It has been a privilege to give so many young people a job doing something they love.

To everyone who has supported us, whether you came to a lesson, bought something from the shop, attended an event, volunteered, donated to our fundraising or simply cheered us on — thank you.

The community around skateboarding in our region is something truly special, and we are incredibly proud of what we built together.

While the doors of Al’s Skate Co will close, the memories, friendships and impact created in this space will last far beyond the walls.
