The strategic collaboration between EFG and Seequent continues with a free webinar examining the critical role geologists play in the safety and long-term management of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs).

Geologists contribute to defining foundation conditions, understanding material variability, identifying structural controls, and assessing depositional behaviour. These factors directly influence stability, seepage, and liquefaction assessments and are therefore fundamental to responsible tailings management.

Join Khaled Zahran as he discusses the geological foundations of TSF safety and the importance of closer collaboration between geologists and engineers throughout the life cycle of these facilities.

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) will participate in the GeoDays 2026, taking place on 16–17 June at the Palais Beaumont in Pau, France!

Organised by Pôle AVENIA, GeoDays is one of Europe's leading business events for the subsurface industries, bringing together professionals from geoscience, energy, mining, and innovation for conferences, exhibitions, and one-to-one business meetings. This year's programme covers the role of the subsurface in the energy transition, industrial sovereignty, and sustainable resource development.

EFG, the Société Géologique de France, and Pôle AVENIA will share Booth E8 at GeoDays. We invite participants to visit the booth to meet representatives from the three organisations, learn more about our activities, and exchange views on current challenges and opportunities for the geoscience profession.

As part of the strategic collaboration between EFG and Seequent, we invite you to join a free webinar exploring some of the key challenges facing Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs).

Tailings Storage Facilities are high-consequence geotechnical structures whose safety depends on a sound understanding of geology. Subsurface uncertainty, evolving tailings properties, and disconnects between geological and geotechnical models can all affect how risks are identified and managed.

This session will explore how integrated digital workflows that combine subsurface data, 3D geological modelling, and geotechnical evaluation can strengthen collaboration between geologists and engineers, improving technical defensibility and supporting safer tailings management.

The webinar will be led by Khaled Zahran, a geotechnical and tailings specialist with international experience across North and Latin America and the UAE.

The European Federation of Geologists (EFG) will be represented at the 9th Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) General Assembly by Tamás Miklovicz, who serves as Academy Manager and Project Officer at EFG.

The Assembly, which takes place from 3 to 5 June 2026 in Budapest (Hungary), is organised by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in collaboration with HungaroMet Hungarian Meteorological Service. The Assembly is a flagship annual event of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, bringing together climate researchers, data providers, EU institutions and service users.

It focuses on three main areas: authoritative climate knowledge (reanalyses, monitoring and projections), access to climate data through tools and training, and translating climate information into decision-making and policy impact. The programme includes plenary sessions, posters, breakout discussions, side meetings, and a networking dinner on 4 June.

EFG will showcase a poster on its position on the European Climate Resilience and Risk Management Integrated Framework.
