Rubirock III: Maarten’s top 5 acts…
These are the acts I’m most looking forward to. Of course, that doesn’t mean that every single act at the unique Rubirock festival isn’t worth seeing—far from it! But here we go… choosing is losing.
1. OLA TUNJI
A jazz band made up of young musicians and without a doubt, the best live band I’ve seen in recent years—a truly spiritual experience. Hot news: in 2027, Voetvolk will create a show with them. I’m incredibly excited about that.
2. SIR RICHARD BISHOP
An American guitarist, a key figure in the experimental music scene, and a personal hero of mine. I first discovered him through his band Sun City Girls. At Rubirock III, he’ll play a solo guitar set—always impressive. Bishop also founded Sublime Frequencies, one of the best labels out there. A true cult figure at Rubirock… don’t miss him.
3. PIERRE BASTIEN
Another cult figure. A French musician, composer, and builder of experimental instruments. Pierre also played on the very first record I released with my band Babyjohn, back in 2004.
4. ICARE
They were a big hit at Rubirock II, because they were so impressive, I invited them back—this time on the main stage. Nobody should miss this. Pure joy in music. It doesn’t get better than this.
5. ANNA KARENINA LAMBRECHTS – From Gravity to Grace
A dance performance you shouldn’t miss. In From Gravity to Grace, Anna Karenina takes the audience on an emotional journey, exploring her roots and transforming them into something powerful and uplifting. Featuring music by another cult figure: Elko Blijweert.

In July, we return to festivals closely woven into Voetvolk’s history. We bring Tempest to Julidans and ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival—a solo described in Cult.news as a work that “radiates impressive power."

WASCO! brings its signature explosion of colour to KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 🇩🇪 on 6 & 7 June.
Ten young performers dance a universe into being with crayons and paint in a live action painting performance set to free jazz — described in Theaterkrant as "a glorious hour of art.”

Three different performances, in three different countries, in about as many days!
To Tanzsolofestival 🇩🇪 who hosted Tempest at Bundeskunsthalle with Theater im Ballsaal , to Sismògraf Olot 🇪🇸 who invited Nomadics into its landscape; and to Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent 🇧🇪 who welcomed ten children, jazz, and a stage full of colour with WASCO! — thank you all for your generosity and warm welcome.
