Congratulations to Sherri Desroches, our 2025/26 Coach of the Year!

This season, Sherri exemplified what it means to be a leader. When our club needed someone to step up, she did so without hesitation, taking on both our CanSkate and PreStar/StarSkate programs while continuing to support skaters, families, and fellow coaches every step of the way.

From the moment she arrived at the rink until the end of the day, Sherri worked tirelessly to keep our programs running smoothly. She kept everyone organized, ensured every session was coordinated, and was always willing to lend a hand wherever help was needed. Even while on vacation, she remained dedicated to our club, organizing our competition and making sure every detail was taken care of.

Her commitment, professionalism, and passion for skating have had a tremendous impact on our club this season. The countless hours she devoted behind the scenes often went unseen, but they never went unappreciated.

Sherri’s dedication to our skaters and her unwavering support of the Ajax Skating Club have made this recognition more than deserved.

The Veronica MacIntosh Memorial Award is one of the most meaningful honours presented by the Ajax Skating Club. This award recognizes a StarSkater who embodies the qualities that Veronica valued most: perseverance, determination, passion for figure skating, outstanding sportsmanship, and a positive attitude both on and off the ice.

This year’s recipient has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their skating journey, continually striving to master new skills, overcoming challenges with resilience, and representing the Ajax Skating Club with grace and elegance at competitions. Each year, we are honoured to recognize two incredible athletes within our Special Olympics skating program—one CanSkater and one StarSkater—who truly embody the spirit of skating.

This year’s recipients were chosen because of the way they show up to the rink each week: with a positive attitude, a willingness to keep trying and grow their skills, and consistent attendance. More than anything, they bring energy, determination, and kindness to every session, helping create a supportive and encouraging environment for everyone around them.

Our PreStar skaters are those working through Badges 4, 5, and 6 of the CanSkate curriculum, building strong foundational skating skills as they progress toward more advanced development.

This award recognizes skaters who consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, perseverance in developing their skills, excellent attendance, and respectful ice etiquette. These skaters come to the rink ready to learn, work hard through challenges, and set a wonderful example for their peers both on and off the ice.
