Sports Hall Honouree Spotlight

Bill Williams’ boxing journey began at age 11 on an army base in Germany and grew into a lifelong commitment to the sport and the Brantford Community.

As a competitor, Bill captured the Ontario Boxing Association Welterweight Championship in 1971 and was named Boxer of the Year. Between 1971 and 1974, he completed throughout Canada and the United States, compiling an impressive amateur record.

After stepping out of the ring, Bill focused on developing the next generation of athletes. Since 1980, he has helped make boxing accessible to local youth by establishing several not-for-profit boxing clubs and mentoring countless young athletes. His coaching has guided nine amateur fighters into the professional ranks, including two Canadian champions.

Bill has also been instrumental in organizing community boxing events such as Friday Night Fights Under the Lights and Punch Out Cancer, using the sport to bring people together and support important causes.

Join us in congratulating Bill Williams, who will be inducted as a 2026 Honouree – Builder (Boxing) at the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition Induction Ceremony on June 10, 2026.
