Hiro's Judo Club would like to congratulate the Judo Alberta Team on winning the Goodwill Team Competition in Hokkaido, Japan. The athletes had a week of hard training in Japan which ended with this friendly competition.

Hello all,

Hiro's Judo Club will be hosting the All Sport One Day event at the dojo on Aug 15th. There will be four 1-hour introductory judo sessions that will show participants the basics of judo. We will need a few young judoka to help with the sessions. Please let us know if your children would be able to help out on Saturday Aug 15th. Please be at the dojo about 15 minutes before each session.

Session 1 9:45-1045 am - kids 7-11 yrs old
Session 2 11:00-12:noon - teens 12-17 yrs old
Lunch 12:00-1:00pm
Session 3 1:00-2:00 pm - kids 7-11 yrs old
Session 4 2:15-3:15pm - teens 12-17 yrs old

Please let us know if you are available to help and which sessions you can attend.

Congratulations Emiliya!!!

Congratulations to Emiliya Aliyeva for winning the 2026 Judo Alberta Performer of the Year. She had a good year competing in cadet, junior and senior at a high level. She topped the season off by winning all three age divisions at the 2026 Open Nationals. (Triple Crown Winner) She had a very nice Pan-Am Championships winning a bronze medal in both the Over 70kg cadet and U78kg junior. Emiliya has dedicated herself to becoming the best athlete she can with the understanding that she is just getting started. Keep working hard!

Good luck at the 2026 Cadet World Championships in Ecuador.

Hello all,

Due to the two year-end parties next Monday and Tuesday, please note the following changes.

Monday June 22 Year-end party for the children U10 class, U12/U14 class and the beginner kids class. There will be NO adult class on Monday.

Tuesday June 23 Year-end party for all the youth and adult classes. No beginner kids class on Tuesday. There will be a youth class (U16/U18/U21) on June 25.

Summer session is optional and will start July 2nd and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no fee and open to all to drop in when you can/wish.

Children (U10/U12/U14) 6:00-7:00pm
Youth/adults (U16 and older) 7:00-8:45 (maybe 8:30)pm

I still need two more volunteers for the casino June 16 6:30pm - 3:30am as a cashier or as a chip runner. Please fill out the volunteer form, sign it and send it back to me as soon as possible.

Year-end party

Due to the number of students in our classes, we will be holding two year-end parties.

Monday June 22 at 6:30pm will be for the Juniors class (U10/U12/U14) and the beginner children’s class.

This will be the last day of the judo semester for the children's classes.

Tuesday June 23 at 7:00 pm will be for the Youth class (U16/U18/U21) and ALL adults. The last day of classes for the teen/adults will be June 25.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided. Please register using the link below so that we know how many people will attend. We will have a short practice with games and then PIZZA!

Summer sessions

Starting July 2, Hiro’s Judo Club will be holding classes for children (under 14) and for teen/adults (14 and older) on Tuesdays/Thursdays. They are totally optional as we would like the athletes to also have time to enjoy summer vacations. These will be for current members (not new beginners) and will have less formal teaching than regular classes. There is no fee for these classes.

All Sport One Day – Saturday June 20

Hiro’s Judo Club participates in the City of Calgary’s All Sport One Day event to show children our judo program. This year we will be having judo sessions presented at the Genesis Centre in NE Calgary. We will need about 5-6 students (and a few parents) to help with our sessions. We will be holding 2 sessions for the 6-11 age group and 2 sessions for the 12-17 age group. If you are willing to help with these sessions, please let us know.

What an amazing year for Emiliya Aliyeva. She won two gold medals at the Ontario Open, a gold and a silver at the Quebec Open, a gold and silver medal at the Edmonton International, a gold and silver at the Pacific International and two bronze medals at the Cadet and Junior Pan Am Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Finally, she capped off the season with three gold medals (U18 70kg, U21 -78kg, and Senior -78kg) at the 2026 Open Nationals Judo Championships in Calgary! Truly an outstanding performance!

Tuesday/Thursday beginner class

Hello Everyone:

Due to low attendance, the Tuesday/Thursday beginner teen/adult class is now closed and all participants may continue by attending the adult class on Monday/Wednesday 8:00 - 9:30 pm. This change will allow for better instruction.
