About Carole Galligan Sensei
Iaido Kyoshi 7th Dan:
Carole Galligan Sensei began her Iaido journey 38 years ago at the University of Guelph and has devoted more than three decades to the study, practice, and teaching of Iaido.
Throughout her journey, Carole has had the opportunity to study with and learn from respected instructors including Kim Taylor Sensei and Goyo Ohmi Sensei in Canada, and Haruna Sensei of Japan, as well as many other senior and highly regarded Iaido Sensei in Japan. Her training has included extensive opportunities to learn directly from experienced instructors both in Canada and during training in Japan.
She is the Chief Instructor of Mu Mon Kai Dojo at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto and serves as the Central Regional Iaido Examiner for the Canadian Kendo Federation.
Her approach to teaching combines technical precision with a deeper understanding of the principles of Iaido. She places particular emphasis on fundamentals, correct movement, timing, posture, awareness, and the continual refinement of one's practice.
Carole's goal is to help practitioners understand not only how to perform the kata, but why we practice them, while encouraging each student to continue developing their own Iaido through dedicated and thoughtful practice.
