🌊 Oceans Week Paddle 🌊
What a beautiful evening on the water! Last night we celebrated with a special guided paddle from Lower Prospect, enjoying calm seas, sunshine, and some fascinating discussion about the incredible role our oceans play in sustaining life on Earth.
A big thank you to Morgan for sharing insights on everything from phytoplankton and whales to carbon sequestration and the importance of healthy marine ecosystems. It’s a reminder that the ocean isn’t just a place to paddle—it’s the life support system for our planet.
With Oceans Week running from June 1–8 and World Oceans Day coming up on June 8, there’s no better time to get outside, explore the coast, and learn more about the waters that connect us all.
Check out the events calendar for activities happening throughout the week, and come experience the ocean with us here in beautiful Lower Prospect—where Halifax paddles.

A PFD only works if you’re wearing it 🦺
This Safe Boating Awareness Week, Paddle Canada and the Canadian Safe Boating Council are reminding paddlers to make wearing a lifejacket or PFD part of every trip on the water.
Cold water, changing weather, unexpected swims — conditions can shift fast. Wearing your PFD gives you valuable time, buoyancy, and protection when it matters most.
Comfortable, reliable, and designed for paddling, today’s PFDs are made to move with you so there’s no reason to leave it behind.

Happy Victoria Day ☀️🛶 and we couldn’t ask for a better start to the paddling season at East Coast Outfitters in Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia.
Blue skies, calm water, incredible coastal views, and a week of sunshine ahead 🌊
If you’ve been thinking about getting on the water — now’s the time.
Yesterday we kicked off another Paddle Canada course and there will be another Level 1 Skills course this weekend. We’re excited to see the season coming alive again with our guided tours running daily:
🛶 Island Explorer Tour - Half day
🛶 Coastal Tour - Full day
🛶 Seascape Tour - 2.5 hours
🛶 Sunset Tour - 2.5 hours
A quick reminder for anyone planning to visit:
📞 Please book ahead and reserve your spots early.
We can’t always accommodate same-day bookings, especially during warm weather weekends. Calling ahead helps us schedule guides and make sure everyone has the best possible experience on the water.
We’re also continuing to prioritize cold water safety during Safe Boating Awareness Week. While the air feels like summer, ocean temperatures are still very cold this time of year. For that reason, we’re currently focusing primarily on guided tours while we wait a little longer to fully open our single kayak rental program.
If you’re experienced and comfortable paddling in cold conditions — or looking for a double kayak rental — give us a call and we’ll do our best to help you out safely.
Until then, come explore the coast with one of our guides and enjoy one of the best weeks of weather we’ve seen yet this season ☀️

Beautiful day in Lower Prospect to get out on the water and learn how to paddle 🌊☀️
Today we’re running a Basic Kayak Skills course here at ECO — where Halifax learns how to paddle. 😉
Perfect timing too, because this week marks Canadian Safe Boating Council Safe Boating Awareness Week across Canada. One of the 5 key boating safety messages is simple: take a boating course. Learning proper paddling skills, rescue techniques, trip planning, and cold-water awareness helps make your entire paddling season safer and more enjoyable.
The 5 key Safe Boating Awareness Week reminders:
🛟 Wear your lifejacket
🚫 Boat sober
🌊 Be cold water safe
📚 Take a boating course
⚓ Be prepared — you and your vessel
There’s no better time to build confidence on the water and get ready for a full season of paddling around Nova Scotia.
