Hi Friends -

I’m doing some research for my coaching business. I work with women who are in midlife and beyond who have realized that life’s too short to keep putting up with the status quo, and want to stop “shoulding”, people pleasing, and holding it together for everyone else. They’re at full capacity, know stress is part of the equation, but don’t know how to change gears, let go and find peace.

I don’t love that I often wake up grumpy, that my perfectionism and control issues sometimes take the driver’s seat, or that self-doubt gets in the way of me doing what is important to me.

But if I only look on the bright side and don’t acknowledge the shadows, I’ll never gain the ability to deal with them.

Do you ever find yourself getting upset or angry and then feeling guilty about it, trying to make it go away?

I admit - I am often tempted to focus on the positive and pretend the other things aren’t there. And that works for a little while, but if I really want to walk my talk, it doesn’t end up ringing true.

It makes sense that we want everything to be fine - pain, discomfort, anxiety, doubt and fear aren’t enjoyable. But that doesn’t make them any less valid.

I offer practical tools for acknowledging and dealing with the emotions and thoughts you’d prefer not to admit to - so they don’t feel so powerful or uncomfortable.

Do you ever feel helpless and at the mercy of your nervous system patterns?

Although patterns show up in our minds, they’re part of our bodies.

So, when it comes to creating new neural pathways, changing the way you think isn’t always enough. When you learn to feel comfortable in the tall grass, creating new pathways is so much easier.

Sometimes I look back on a conversation, or on something I did, and think “that’s not who I really am; I didn’t show up there in a way that was true to myself.”

We know how we want to show up, but it’s hard when we’re “in it”.

What keeps you from following your guiding stars, being true to who you are?
