Kentville Chess

Our second-last day of chess before summer break! It's a beautiful day so come hang out at the Kentville Library from 4:00-5:30 and play some games. And please continue to make your voice heard over the summer that you want to keep our Valley libraries open. I'll post about the future of the chess club when I have more info.

Hundreds have been congregating in the town square today, marching the street between the square and the library. Thank you everyone for your support of our precious library system. Let’s all continue to show our elected officials that we need our Valley libraries.

Despite the pouring rain, the town has turned out to rally against the lack of provincial government support to our library system.

Join me this afternoon beginning at 1:00pm for a read-in at John Lohr’s office (347 Main Street, Kentville). Demonstrations against government actions don’t have to be loud to be effective, but they do require people. Bring a book, bring your chair and bring your outrage at the attack on culture in Nova Scotia.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of provincial funding for the Kentville Library, the library is closed for the next two weeks, so chess club will be cancelled this week and next. We will be back again for the 16th and the 23rd, which is our last day for the season. Because the library will be closing forever in July, it also looks like this may be the end of the chess club program as well, unless I can secure another viable space to hold it. There is a read-in today at 1pm, at the Kentville MLA's office to protest these funding cuts. I'm planning to go, and I'd love to see you there as well.
