The infamous ducks have arrived signalling the end of skating for the season.
It was an up and down year for the Oval with a lot of closures due to warm spells. We were particularly sad about not being able to host the skate of the Iceman 😥
When it was cold enough the ice was great and we hoped you got out to enjoy it.
Thank you to our amazing volunteers for all that they did to bring outdoor skating to our community.
Until next year…

No confirmed reopening date just yet, but we hope to have an update in another day.

Work to recover the Oval surface is underway thanks to the dedication of our volunteers 👏🏻
We have no anticipated reopening date at this time, but we remain optimistic.
Looking for something to do while you wait for us to reopen? Why not watch our Team Canada 🇨🇦 athlete and former Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club skater Carolina Hiller race in the 500m tomorrow morning (Sunday Feb 15) starting at 8am!
You can watch it live for free on CBC Gem.

If you’ve ever skated here, you know how special this place is. ❄️
Our outdoor ice oval relies entirely on cold weather — something we can no longer rely on with our changing climate 🌎. It’s not just bad timing with the PG Iceman this weekend, it’s not consistently cold enough anymore to reliably make ice🧊.
To protect the future of this community space, we need to Chill the Oval with refrigeration. It’s the only long-term solution.
You can help by:

• Sharing this post widely
• Helping us advocate for the oval’s future by getting involved with our organization
This place matters. Let’s keep it in our future💙

Sorry folks, these warm spells make skating on natural ice difficult. The Oval is closed for now 😥
