There are some goodbyes that words can never fully explain, and saying goodbye to our horses is one of them.

They were never just a horse. They were a friend, a companion, a teacher, and a quiet comfort on days when the world felt too heavy. They gave us moments of joy, lessons in patience, reasons to smile, and memories we will carry for the rest of our lives.

They know our voice, our touch, and perhaps even the things we could never put into words. In the quiet moments, standing beside them, with our hand resting on their neck and their warm breath against our cheek, there was a kind of peace that only a horse can give.

I wish we could explain to them how much they mean to us. I wish we could tell them that they changed our lives in ways they may never have known. I wish there were a way to make their goodbye hurt a little less.

But love is not measured by how long we get to keep someone. It is measured by everything we share while they are here.

If love alone could keep them here, they would never leave our side. But sometimes the greatest act of love is letting go, even when every part of your heart begs for one more day, one more ride, one more nuzzle, one more moment.

So, to my beautiful friends, if it is time for you to rest, know that you have been loved beyond measure. You have made a difference. You have left hoofprints on our hearts that time will never erase.

We will miss the sound of your footsteps, the feel of your mane between our fingers, and the simple comfort of knowing you are there. We will miss you in the ordinary moments, when we turn to look for you out of habit, and in the extraordinary moments when we wish we could share one more moment with you.

But we will remember them, too.

We will remember the good days, the laughter, the rides, the quiet mornings, and all the little things that made you you. We will remember that we were lucky enough to know you, to care for you, and to love you.

Run free. Let the wind carry you across endless fields, let the grass always be green beneath your feet, and let there be no pain, no fear, and no sadness.

Thank you for trusting us with your heart. Thank you for every moment you gave us. Thank you for being part of our lives.

You may leave this world, but you will never leave our hearts.

You were loved. You are loved. You will always be loved.

Chester and Dora take their job as Quality Control very seriously. They're always ready to ensure that the new hay is up to standard. Every bale of every load is tested for taste and texture to make sure the herd here only gets the very best.

As winter settles in for the next few months, it will become harder for some people to function. Myself included as I try to battle wanting to hibernate versus visiting my equine therapists. Winter can be a great time to work on bonding with your horse and just having fun instead of all the schooling and focusing on getting ready for the next show.

What do you do with your horse to beat the winter blues?

I picked out all 4 hooves!!! While this may seem like a minor achievement to most, I'd like to note that this feat has taken me 3 months to accomplish.

July of this year I decided to take on another mule. This one however has a traumatic past. Mules are often very misunderstood and to often people get them thinking they're just like horses. Let me be very clear on this though, mules ARE NOT like horses. They're stubborn, insanely smart, stubborn, opinionated, selective on who their people are, stubborn, loyal to their human, loath to forgive mistreatment and one of the sweetest animals going if you treat them appropriately.

Three months in, and she'll stand in cross ties; let me brush her all over (except her belly); has mostly stopped ripping her tail out; and allows others to halter her. Yet while I can pick her feet out, forget trimming them. Her front feet are in horrific shape but gaining her trust and teaching her that humans are okay are far more important to me than just drugging her and man handling her into allowing a farrier underneath her. Not only that but I value my farrier and man can this mule kick. Her back foot can come forward toward your head faster than you can blink.

Slowly but surely she's learning to trust. Slowly but surely she's releasing her trauma. Slowly but surely she's letting us see that there's a sweet molly mule in there.

Three months in and I can pick out all four hooves and that for me is enough. ❤️
