It’s easy to fall for Norfolk Golf Club, a course that dates to 1895 and exudes nostalgia in both architecture and aura. Nine holes, in the heart of Simcoe, Ont., on a small parcel of fantastic land that plunges and climbs dramatically throughout, the course was designed by locals with some presumed influence from Stanley Thompson, who visited Norfolk, along with his brothers, for matches. The par-34 layout measures fewer than 3,000 yards, but its rumpled land provides both intrigue and challenge, with the downhill-then-uphill par-4 first, blind-approach par-4 third and narrow, snaking par-5 fifth (first three photos) the standouts among an excellent collection of holes. These assignments in particular define Norfolk — charming, quirky, fun and seeking smarts and creativity from the golfer. Those with a keen interest in golf course architecture will appreciate Norfolk, which tops out at just $39 for nine holes and boasts a passionate membership led by folks taking steps to move the course forward through smart changes, including tree removal, while ensuring its captivating design remains intact. Meet some of our team here at the Norfolk Golf Club!

Running the Pro Shop is Shane, and the Superintendent of the grounds is Nigel!

Shane takes great pride in his position. He wants staff to clean those carts and have those dirt containers filled up for the next golfers! So when you're playing be sure to fill any divots you make! The Ladies group said they had to fill a lot of them yesterday. We'll need to get the divot police out there!!

As the Superintendent, Nigel is very passionate about the course and he also takes great pride in it looking exceptional. He and his staff have certainly achieved that this season!

On Monday, August 10th, Dave K's 18 hole scramble went well, despite early morning storm activity. No results in yet.

In the afternoon the Ladies League headed out to beautiful weather to play 9 holes! They were met by a few 18 holers who would finish their last 9.

I'm adding some pics of players and grounds so you can see the awesome condition of the course!

You may have noticed some work being done around the Memory Garden at the Clubhouse recently, just behind the 1st tee box.

A project was initiated by one of our members, Kathy Macdonald, who wanted to clean it up in memory of her late husband, Don Macdonald. Don, a 40 + year member of the Norfolk Golf Course passed away earlier this year.

The garden had become very overgrown, and the landing had trees growing through the dirty and uneven paver stones. Not very inviting to look at.

So, Kathy took it upon herself, with the Boards' knowledge, and no cost to us, to coordinate the cleanup and have the stones power-washed and properly leveled.

Many thanks to the course staff who did the initial clean up of the garden. And a special thank you to Kathy for taking this project on herself to complete this work, and hire the workers who completed the work today.

It looks wonderful! Its not quite finished yet, but the improvement is remarkable. Here are just a few pictures of the work and today's results.

The fine people at @norfolkgolf1895 invited me out to check out there very beautiful and historic golf course. The greens were pure and the fairways were very well maintained great value for the price point. I also loved that it was established in 1895 I felt cool to be playing on a course that has some history to it. Check it out! #golf
